Since Rani is busy...I'm going to go ahead and translate...
Nivedita already provided the transliteration...if you like her poems to visit her blog and leave your comments there instead of here...

Ektarfa Nishaan
One-sided Mark

Kitne dafe humne kahi, kitne dafe yun chup rahe
Many times I have spoken, many times I kept silent
Uss baat ki kuchh silwatein ab bhi kohri hain
The wrinkles in those conversations are still empty

Tumne aasmaani ek kameez uss roz di thi turpan ko
In the sky-blue shirt you'd given for sowing that day
Usmein baanyien oor ek silaayi ab bhi dheeli hai
On the left side the stitches are still loose today

Tumhari di kitaab mein bandhe thode gulaabi khayaal
Rose-colored thoughts wrapped in the book you gave
Haan, kaagzi si mushq unki ab seeli-seeli hai
The paper like musk (scent) still lingers moistly

Aaj bhi hairaan hain wo khatte-meethe kuchh sawaal
Those sweet and sour questions are still perplexing today
Aaj bhi unhein poochh kar ye aankh geeli hai
These eyes are moist from asking till today

Masoom dil ko ab bhi aadat ek raat-raani kisse ki
The innocent heart is now used to the story of one night-queen
Uss raat ki kuchh karwatein har raat thehri hain
The tossing and turning of that night still remain

Kitne dafe humne kahi, kitne dafe yun chup rahe
Many times I've spoke, many times I kept silent
Uss baat ki parchhaaiyaan ab bhi gehri hain...
The shadows of those words are still deep today...

I might have butchered the meaning in the translation and for that I apologize...

Hi Nivedita,

Love you in BBAT and you poems are deep, I really enjoy them. Heck I even struggle to read the hindi ones - I speak fluent hindi just cannot read it but am trying.
Just want to say thank you.

A few words of poetry penned by Nivedita posted on facebook...just thought I'd share it here as well since her wall does get a little crowded with all the love spam and the thoughts get pushed to the back...
'Of Masks and Pancake'

She wakes up with a swollen face today

But, it has to be like any other day

Look beautiful, radiant, put on the smiling cap

Hide the real tears behind the darkened lash
Is the pain visible? She must take care!
Make-up all perfect? So should be the hair!

She has got her lines, she is now a 'face'

Of silks and laces - a picture-perfect grace!

Her world now a stage, reality severs ties

Now begins a story of pancakes, masks and lies...

Wafah, Rani,

Nivedita as a creative person (writing, poetry, acting) is also very observant in the process.  She is exposed to people in her trade, I am sure, and has seen through the masks.  The thoughts she has penned in the poem (above) are so true.  Her other written words reflect her observations well too (check her blog).

We look at actors, athletes and public figures with some adulation and in the process forget that they are on "display" all the time.  Behind the public persona, there is a person just like us who has the same feelings of highs and lows, joy and tears, happiness and sadness, just like we do.  Do they have a choice when in public to feel these emotions?  We attach labels to them when they do.  Hence they are forced to put up a facade that hides a lot.  They have to appear perfect!

Only a person with a good head on his/her shoulder can handle fame and adulation well.  History books are full with names people who could not...

I've always loved the way Nivedita pens her thoughts and observations in such a creative manner, and have enjoyed it from the first time Bee shared it with me, quite a while back. It is a rare thing to be able to express your thoughts and put them in words so effectively.

I'm well aware of masks worn by people in the public eye, and that not often people are able to handle the attention and adulation well. It doesn't apply just to actors and public figures but I think to anyone, it's just the ones in the public eye draw more attention. Acting is a field that encompasses all modes of creativity as Nivedita herself once said, and yes as actors sometimes they are required to put on a facade.

We attach labels not only to actors but others in our day to day life too. We expect certain professionals such as teachers and nurses to be a certain way and even in attach labels and generalizations based on gender or even age. "Acting our age" is a common adage. Sometimes we do it knowingly and sometimes unknowingly, and sometimes even the wisest people do it, unintentionally.

Perfection is overrated in my opinion which doesn't mean that one shouldn't strive for perfection but many people obsess over it unnecessarily picking faults in the least of things. It does keep people from being who they truly are and expressing what they truly feel, and while censure is important, the need to censure ourselves to attain perfection keeps us from being who we truly are.

In an ideal world one wouldn't have to worry about labels and impressions, and while people synonymously use ideal to mean perfect it doesn't always imply perfection...

Inspiration for a new poem written in between the shots today...

'Truth is beauty, beauty truth' - Keats

'Is this real? Or has this been happening inside my head' - Harry

'Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean it is not real?' - Dumbledore

I believe

There's a world of fairies

There's a place where rainbows meet

There's a face the moon never shows

Those stars have twinkling feet

The butterfly borrows colour

From the flower, when they greet

The sunflower cranes its neck

When the sun removes its sheet

Beauty is truth, truth beauty

They've said in the times of yore

I believe in the truth of the fables

Of the legends and the folklore

This world of belief is beautiful

Away from the daily grind

Why does this world seem true

When it exists inside my mind?

Kyonki 'tum' unhin baaton ko baar-baar kehte ho,

Bas isliye unhein sun-na,
Achchha lagta hai

Because 'you' say those words again and again

Listening to them for that reason

I like it

 Tumhari wo khushnuma befikra hansi,
Uss hansi mein bina soche khud ka befikra hona,
Achchha lagta hai

 Your joyous, worry-free laughter

Losing my own worries in that laughter without a thought

I like it

Kitna zidd karte ho tum. Chhedte ho na mujhko, yunhi?
Sach kahoon? To suno, haarkar tumhari zidd aage jhukna,
Achchha lagta hai

Your stubbornness, you just like to tease me like this?

Shall I tell you the truth? Then listen, giving in to your stubbornness

I like it

 Jhooth-mooth ka tumhara naaraaz hona,
Phir manaane par mujhe hi 'bewakoof' kehna
Achchha lagta hai

You pretending to be angry with me

Then calling me a "fool" when I try to pacify you
I like it

Chhote-chhote hamaare lamhe...
Kuchh pal ke liye hi sahi
Mere lamhon ko tumhara, tumhare lamhon ko mera hona
Achchha lagta hai

 Small moments of ours

Even if they are fleeting

My moments as yours, and yours as mine

I like it

Jaante ho?
Tumhara iss tarah aas-paas hona,
Achchha lagta hai...

 Do you know?

Your being close to me like this

I like it...

Translation attempt is mine so pardon any mistakes
