The traditional Tamil year starts on 14 April 2011, Kaliyuga 5113.
Chithirai is the first month in a traditional Tamil Calendar followed in Tamil Nadu. The first day or Chithirai 1 is observed as New Year by many Hindu Tamil communities. Chithirai Month in 2011 begins on April 14 and ends on May 14. Some of the important and auspicious days in the month include Chithirai festival at Madurai Meenakshi Temple and Pournami.

Tamil New Year, otherwise known as Puthandu, is the celebration of the first day of the Tamil New Year and falls during the mid-April. It is not only celebrated by the Tamils in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry in India, but also by the Tamil populace in Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Singapore and Mauritius. On Tamil New Year, people take the opportunity to greet each other saying Iniya Tamizh Puthaandu Nalvazhthukkal and also by sending Tamil New Year messages.

The warmth is spread with the help of the messages of Tamil New Year and good wishes are sent across. One can also scout for the wide collection of favorite Tamil New Year messages and accordingly choose the one that he/she likes the best. We all want each other's Puthandu to be grand and blessed.

So, take this chance to wish family and friends with the interesting Tamil New Year messages and indulge in grand celebration.

Vishu is the harvest festival of Kerala observed on the first day of the Medam month (April – May) of Malayalam Panchang. It is the first day in Malayalam calendar. Vishu 2011 date is April 15. This festival is also celebrated in Tulu Nadu region in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. In some places Vishu is known as Bisu.

Vishukani is the most important ritual on Vishu festival in Kerala. Vishukani 2011 darshanam in Sabarimala Temple is given in the post of Vishukani darshanam 2011. Vishu Phalam or Vishubhalam are the special predictions prepared by Malayalam Astrologers. It is believed reading or knowing Vishu Phalam of that year on Vishu gives a good start for the year.

Vishu festival also marks the day of Mesha Sankranti or Mesha Sankraman during which Sun transits to the first zodiac – Mesha Rashi or Aries zodiac. Literally, Vishu means equal and signifies one of the equinox. Malayalam calendar is also known as Kollavarsham.

Vishu festival or the first day of Medam month is considered as the astrological New Year day whereas the official Malayalam New Year starts in Chingam month (August – September).

Wishing all the Malayaalee Members Happy Vishu
