Valentines Day - Most Romantic Scenes IV

After another mixed response day here come the next two scenes, for Day 4...

After another mixed response day (we seem to alternate between good and bad when the intention is only trying to get variety on the platter) here come the next two scenes, for Day 4.

We have to admit, coming to the single digit ranks in the top 14 has really tightened the competition, and that calls for all you loyal fans to root even harder for the scenes you would wish to see in the final and top 6 scenes of this countdown.

Meanwhile, enjoy today's share of this trip down the decade, 2001-2010.

Movie: Vivah (2006: Shahid Kapoor, Amrita Rao)
Scene: Sindoor Scene

Here comes a hard core Bolly lovers' dream come true romantic scene! Vivah, a much needed blockbuster in Shahid's then drooping career graph was as typical a love story, as any of Bollywood's mega hit family dramas could have been. And it was hence, just as much a success as BO.

The storyline traces the journey of a couple, Poonam (Amrita) and Prem (Shahid) - who meet for matrimonial set up in an 'arranged' manner, and come about to fall deeply in love with each other - from being engaged to being married.  It shows in a traditionally innocent way, the inner inhibitions and anticipations of both the lead characters, Poonam a middle class girl and Prem an upper class business family guy, through the wait, and some unexpected tests of time.

And our 'most romantic' scene here, from among quite a few choices within this same movie, is what has come to be famously tagged the sindoor scene! At the threshold of finally tying the knot, a night before the auspicious date in an unfortunate fire at her household, Poonam suffers some severe burns and is admitted to the emergency. While Prem, as soon as he learns of the horrific incident rushes to his love, Poonam is all withdrawn with her fear of not being up to his mark as a life partner any longer, given the damage to her physical appearance. However, Prem, proving his love to have been no frivolity adorns the maang of his to-be-bride with the red sindoor thereby declaring his biggest vow of marriage there and then.

And although, like all typical Bollywood movies, this one too does have a perfectly happy ending with Poonam surviving out of a miraculous operation which heals her entirely, and the duo getting happily married eventually, the hospital scene is what stands out phenomenally in having been a test of the engaged lovers in a natural circumstance that neither could have helped.

A much loved scene, especially by the ardent and loyal fans of this onscreen jodi of Shahid and Amrita!

Scene: Almost shaadi...!

Kunal Kohli's Hum Tum, plot wise exceedingly similar to the English blockbuster When Harry Met Sally, is the story of two individuals who meet, and meet again, and meet yet again... quite a few times, coincidentally and eventually by plan before finally becoming friends, and then falling in love.

Karan (Saif) and Rhea (Rani) are two individuals poles apart in nearly every way imaginable. One such a boy, and the other such a girl! The cupid philosophy of opposites attract takes its own sweet time to happen between them. And through the journey of crossing each others paths of life, time and again, the two characters bring forth some full on entertainment and drama, and many jolly moments.

The scene which we chose as our 'most romantic' from this movie was Filmfare's Best Scene for the year 2004. It is the comic and ironic exchange between Karan and Rhea, where they play pretend to being set up for an arranged marriage. A pretense, that goes from being an act, to seemingly so real, that it ends up in an awkward little hesitance - but one that makes a viewer's heart go out to the duo, wishing for them to get together there and then!

A divorced Rhea of some years returns to India from Paris, and is happy to be back to the place she had been escaping after her husband, Sameer's death. Karan casually questions the point of her ever having wished to be away in the first place, before apologizing for his unintentionally hurtful reminder. Rhea's response to his rhetoric is however, surprisingly calm and not offended. She explains having had to go away to not be pushed into getting married a second time, and going through all the rut. She declares that her love for Sameer has not died with him, and it shall always be. Reasonably enough, Karan points out that moving on has to happen, this way or that. Which is what brings the two 'friends' to the discussion of viability of an arranged marriage.

It is herein, that to prove his point in an absolutely light discussion, Karan draws her for the image of being a pretend prospective groom for her,  and convinces her to be game and join the act. They spin off lines as if meeting for the first time, and trying to get to know each other. Questions of changing cities and adjusting, or working wives or not... and a question pertaining to kids.

It is then, while drawing the picture perfect family - with kids and a dog called Tommy who would be spoiled by Karan and cared for by Rhea, that they inevitably chance upon a close and awkward moment where Karan declares he shall always and foremost love her, Rhea, before everything and everyone else.

They pull apart, each suddenly past the drama and hesitant, and Karan in trying to make ligt of the moment exclaims ... dekha? Ye arranged marriages ke baare mein baat karna kitna asaan hai? Humari almost shaadi hogayi thi...!

An abrupt culmination to their scene of building castles in the air which a die hard romantic could watch forever! In an adrobaly oblivious way, Karan comes forth candid about his love for Rhea, even as both of them are far from understanding much less acknowledging this mutual feeling.

A scene extremely well enacted by Rani and Saif, and well deserved of its Filmfare credential!

Shahid Kapoor, a trend setter of some sorts, is known for doing some very unique things, be it for his performances or for his movies. This time around he has gone to a whole new level and has decided to become a pilot, and not just for any old plane but the one that no actor has ever got the chance to sit in!

It has been confirmed that Shahid will be participating in the Aero India 2011 contest that is being held in Bangalore on February 11th. He will notibly be the first actor in the whole world to be flying an F-16 IN Super Viper fighter plane, one of the fastest planes ever. Before him, Ratan Tata was the only Indian to be allowed the privilege of flying the F16.

Shahid has been said to have gone through rigorous training the last one month and will continue to do so until his flying date. Along with the training, he had to go through a few medical tests to make sure he did not suffer from motion sickness and can safely fly at high velocity. Fortunately he has passed most of the tests and only a few remain which will take place in the upcoming days.

Before the competition, Shahid will run a flight stimulation test at the Indian Air Force Station Yelahanka where he will run through a mock up the competition day itself, almost like a rehearsal.

This is a great opportunity for Shahid to learn the different aspects of flying a plane since he plays an Air Force pilot in his next venture. Mausum, directed by his father, the renowned actor Pankaj Kapoor, stars Sonam Kapoor opposite him.

Just like his career is on a high, here's hoping Shahid has a great time being up in the sky!

First Look: Shahid Kapoor flies in F-16 at air show

Bollywood hero Shahid Kapoor Saturday flew in an American F-16 fighter at the AeroIndia 2011 military-cum-civil aviation trade expo on the outskirts of this aerospace hub.

"It was a thrilling experience, which will help me in the role as a fighter pilot in my forthcoming film 'Mausam', " a beaming Kapoor told reporters after a 40-minute sortie at the Indian Air Force (IAF) air base near Yelahanka, about 20 km from the city.

The F-16IN Super Viper was flown by Lockheed Martin's test pilot Paul 'Bear' Randall on mission mode and was escorted by another F-16 flown by test pilot Jim Hedges and a US Air Force pilot.

"Though Kapoor didn't take controls of the aircraft mid-air, the flight was operated on mission mode for about 40 minutes with AESA (Active Electronically Scanned Array) radar, " a company spokesperson told IANS.

Prior to the flight on the fourth day of the five-day biennial mega air show, Kapoor underwent mandatory health check-ups and was found fit to fly in the combat aircraft.

"It's a huge honour and privilege to fly such a magnificent aircraft. I wanted to have real-time experience of flying a fighter before action in the movie, " the 30-year-old actor said.

A couple of hours before the take-off, Kapoor was familiarised with the operations of the aircraft and made to 'fly' it in a simulator by Lockheed Martin's test pilots and engineers.

"I have been preparing for this event with rigorous training over the last one month. The tests included flying at a very high velocity and making sure I would not suffer from motion sickness, " Kapoor recalled.

Kapoor is the latest to join the likes of Tata group chairman Ratan Tata, IAF Wing Commander (Retd) Rakesh Sharma and Lok Sabha member from Haryana Navin Jindal to have flown in the tandem-seater fly-by-wire supersonic F-16

"It's a great experience and I learnt how to fly a fighter. Paul (the pilot) gave me lot of tips about flying such an awesome military aircraft and I am thankful to Lockheed Martin, " he said.

The US-based Lockheed's F-16 is in contention for the estimated $10-billion Indian tender to supply 126 medium multi-role combat aircraft (MMRCA) to the IAF along with five global aerospace majors -- F/A-18 Super Hornet of Boeing, Gripen of Saab, Rafale of French Dassault, Typhoon of Eurofighter and MiG-35 of Russian MiG Corporation.

"Mausam" is being directed by Shahid's father Pankaj Kapoor, in which the younger would play the role of a fighter pilot opposite Sonam Kapoor. The film is due for release in July.

Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni too visited the air show at the closing hours and went around the base where various aircraft and helicopters were on display.
