No song this year has stuck in my mind well enough to be a song of the year. This is partly the film business's fault, partly my own. For this year, we havent had films that match the success and quality of my previous 'albums of the year'.

For example, just listening to 'Kaho Na Pyaar Hai' transports me to the time of a hillstation holiday ten years ago in 2000. In 2001 Udit Narayan entered the soundtrack of my life with Gadar and Lagaan. My life in 2002 had Kaante and Devdas (Uditji again) playing in the background. Similarly, Main Hoon Na (2004), Veer Zara (2004), Bunty Aur Babli (2005), Kailash Ker's album Kailasa are like chronological 'anchors' for me.

This year, there haven't been any amazing albums in my opinion. Having said that, I did not pay much attention to this year's filmi music either. I rejected many albums without giving them time to sink in. My Name is Khan and Veer are probably my favourite albums this year.

This year's leading singers have been KK and Sunidhi Chauhan. KK sang songs in Kites and Guzaarish which IMO have sealed his name in the list of Bollywood singing legends. Sunidhi Chauhan, too, had many big moments this year: three of the biggest item songs (Dhanno, Sheila Ki Jawani, Ainvayi Ainvayi), an item number that stretched her vocals (Neeyat Kharaab from Teen Patti), a show of versatility with the soulful Bin Tere from IHLS and a song directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Sorry for the essay.

Ah you are still so nostalgic bhai.

Wonder if seeing Udit ji in the SRGMP finals stirred any old memories too.

Guzaarish songs are very nice. But Sallu Bhai's comments were totally uncalled for and very insensitive. Guess old grudges.

Yes Tum Mile songs are fantastic.  These are 2009 I think.
There are a few pretty good ones.
