There is a difference between saying something, listening to it, and then applying it. Especially when SHOCK (and I write that in capital letters) is involved, as it is in the case here.

Different people react differently to 'revelations' and surprises...some go into silent shock (i.e. Kala), while others are more expressive, more impulsive. Dutta obviously falls into the second category. Anyone getting such a surprise would loose their head over it for a moment and forget anything that was said or heard...the mind instantly jumps to conclusions and actions faster than it can filter or analyze. Dutta is an already scarred man, his wounds always close to the surface...so the fact that he erupts at the slightest inkling of being faced with his biggest demon...it isn't and shouldn't be a surprise. It's pure, human instinct.

As for him showing maturity and groW*H, that of course will happen after the initial moment of shock....when he reflects within himself and seeks the truth, of Nakusha's life, her reasonings and of his own prejudices.
