Director: Abhishek Sharma
Cast: Ali Zafar, Pradhuman Singh, Sungandha Garg
Rating:

Osama Bin Laden is back. He has put on weight and is looking younger with botox. And he is all set to attack you with some side-splitting moments in this crime con-medy Tere Bin Laden .

Set in Pakistan, Ali (Ali Zafar) works as a television reporter for local news channel but wants to migrate to the US for better prospects. After being deported from US once and having his American visa rejected seven times, Ali approaches a travel agent who assures him of an entry to America if he can manage a couple of lakhs.

That's when he stumbles across Noora (Pradhuman Singh) whose facial features come too close to Osama Bin Laden. Ali hatches a plan to shoot a fake video of Osama with Noora and sell it to news channels for big money. So he hires services of a makeup artist (Sugandha Garg), an Arabic scriptwriter (Chirag Vohra), a dubbing artist (Rahul Singh) and a cameraman (Nikhil Ratnaparkhi) to create the video footage that creates big furor across the globe.

Unfortunately his plan backfires when Pakistanis are forbidden entry into US due to security reasons after Osama's reappearance. Further an American intelligence officer (Barry John) arrives in Pakistan to trace Osama's whereabouts.

It's impressive how an Indian director makes a film entirely set in Pakistan and takes several digs at Pakistan's infrastructure and America's intelligence in a smart and subtle manner. Writer-director Abhishek Sharma humorously pulls off every politically incorrect aspect that we unofficially know about the two nations through the comic genre of his film. This one is India's very own Hot Shots Part Deux .

Slapstick in some scenes, satirical in most and silly at times, Tere Bin Laden clicks primarily because above all its farce, it has an entertaining story to narrate. The writing is witty, funny, crisp and moves at a brisk pace so much so that one doesn't look for too much of conviction in the bigger picture.

The con game in the film is redolent of the con-comedy Khosla Ka Ghosla . Also the song ' Ullu Da Patha ' written by Jaideep Sahni is in the vein of ' Chak De Phatte ' written by him in Khosla Ka Ghosla . The dialogues have an authentic Urdu touch to it but with pungent Punjabi punches, it's not difficult to appreciate the humour. Noora's rendition of Arabic lines as Osama is hilarious. So is the scene where his most priced possession, a murga turns into a martyr. Thankfully the film doesn't divert into unnecessary romance track or forced song-n-dance.

Showcasing comical flair like Riteish Deshmukh and a faade like Shahid Kapoor, Pakistani actor Ali Zafar effortlessly glides through his role. Pradhuman Singh is hilarious while pulling off an Osama Bin Laden. Barry John pretty much justifies the firang character he plays. Blessed with impeccable comic timing, Piyush Mishra is uproarious. The ensemble character cast of Sugandha Garg, Nikhil Ratnaparkhi, Rahul Singh and Chirag Vohra play their parts well.

Tere Bin Laden is laden with some laugh-out-loud moments. Entertaining, enjoyable and surely worth a watch!

Osama Bin Laden is a name that infuses trepidation because of his involvement in the 9/11 US terror attacks. TERE BIN LADEN is a film that will change the way people perceive Osama. It perhaps will even make Osama laugh if he ever gets to see it.

Pakistani singer Ali Zafar makes his acting debut with TERE BIN LADEN. He plays the role of Ali Hassan, a reporter from Pakistan, who wants to make it big in the US. No matter how many different looks he dons (funny), his visa is always rejected. One fine day, he comes across an Osama Bin Laden lookalike at a Mukabla-e-bang (a competition of cocks) and makes a fake video with him, to later sell it for a ransom. But what seemed an innocuous act lands him in trouble as an official named Ted (Barry John) from the White House is in his pursuit.

TERE BIN LADEN has a tight script. Right from the very first scene the mood is set. The tempo of the film is very consistent and moves at a brisk pace. At no point do you feel it is losing its way.

It tastefully takes a dig at America and Pakistan. There's a visa office named Lashkar-e-America in Pakistan. When Ted is asked his rationale behind attacking Afghanistan when he knows that Osama is actually in Pakistan he says he has 100 million dollars allotted for the mission and cannot use the entire sum in only consuming coffee.

It has its share of double-meaning jokes but they aren't crude. There is an amusing scene in which a loyal cock sacrifices its life to save Noora (Pradhuman Singh) and turns into a tandori chicken. Also, when Majeed (Piyush Mishra) finds himself in a gutter, he asks if he has reached America.

It is not just the uproarious moments that make it shine. TERE BIN LADEN also has a good and innovative story weaved around Osama Bin Laden. Abhishek Sharma's direction is flawless.

The film scores high in the performance department. The casting is very apt. Debutant Ali Zafar is quite promising and confident. Pradhuman Singh is perfect. Credit must be given to the make-up artists, who make him perfectly resemble Osama Bin Laden. Piyush Mishra is incomparable. Sugandha Garg (who shot to fame with JAANE TU YAA JAANE NAA) is decent but she doesn't have much to do in the film. Chirag Vohra (as editor Lateef, who writes the lines in Arabic language) is impressive. Nikhil Ratnaparkhi (as Gul, the cameraman) is competent. Rahul Singh (radio jockey Qureshi) is good and last but not the least Chinmay Mandlekar (as Barry John's sidekick) is entertaining.

TERE BIN LADEN is 'laden' with many humourous moments. It is by far the funniest film in recent times. A must watch.

Tere Bin Laden Box Office Report : Big Hit of 2010

Posted by Surili Shah at 4:46 AM Tuesday, July 20, 2010

Even the promos of Tere Bin Laden must have made you laugh of fake Osama Bin Laden. Not many would have expected this low budget flick to rake in Rs 50 crore in its opening weekend.

Yes, it has grossed Rs 50 crore in its opening weekend and has internationally as well as it grossed $150,000 from Britain, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Australia and keep in mind that it has not yet released in US.

It's a little amateurish, and that takes away a few points from Tere Bin Laden . To be fair, a satire attempt is a big deal for a newcomer director. So, kudos to Abhishek Sharma for trying.

Tere Bin Laden is story of a Pakistani reporter, Ali Hassan (Ali Zafar), who wants to migrate to the US. But his visa request always gets rejected. Ali hits upon a weird idea to realise his dream one day when he comes across a timid poultry owner, Noora (Pradhuman Singh), who looks like Osama bin Laden.

Ali decides to produce a fake video with Noora posing as Osama, and sell it to a TV channel in India. The video gets made and Ali bags some quick cash by selling it to the channel, too.

The film was released on 344 screens in India and has a out of the box comedy which makes it work it so well.

All the Actors supported the idea well, specially Pradhuman Singh which is the USP of the film.

If you haven't seen the film yet and planning to let it go, you are surely missing a must watch.
