Today the penny dropped for me regarding the bride swapping in CB.

When I first saw this it reminded me of a novel in bengali written by Rabindranath Tagore........its called Nauka Dubi which literally translates to "The Sunken Boat" ...........the story is about a guy called Ramesh who although in a relationship with a girl called Hemnalini, agrees to get married to a woman he has never met at his parents request. During the marriage ceremony, there is a sudden strom that kills the bride and Ramesh'e father also dies. Later on as the story progresses, Ramesh goes on to meet Kamala , a widow who also lost her spouse immediately after the wedding. The two become close until Kamala learns that her husband is in fact not actually dead. Soon afterwards, Ramesh marries Hemnalini.

This story was made into a movie in Bangali in 1940s by Nitin Bose and later on in 1960's in Hindi...........the hindi version is called Ghunghat. Although in hindi they have changed the story a bit, but the basic concept is still the same............Ravi loved Laxmi, however circumstance pushed him to accept his father's wishes and marry the girl chosen by him. However destiny had its own game to play yet, for at the same another marriage took place where the groom Gopal was married to his friend, Manohar's sister Parvathi. After the wedding both the bridal parties were traveling by the same train and the train met with an accident. In the accident, Ravi's wife died and Manohar became blind. Gopal was lost and his wife, Parvathi, lay unconscious. Ravi mistaking Parvathi for his own wife took her home. It was later he realized his mistake and without letting it down on Parvathi, set out to find her husband.

When this fact dawned on Parvathi. In shame and agony she ran away from Ravi's home and fell in the river. Fate again intervened as her own husband, Gopal saved her life and took her home. This became known to her when her blind brother, Manohar visited Gopal. Here she was a stranger in her own house all because the marriages took place with the grooms never having seen their wives without a GHUNGHAT.

To add to the pains of the characters, Manohar thinking that he had lost his sister was trying to unite Laxmi with Gopal whereby sealing Ravi's fate forever.

What a confusion!

I did not pay attention to the similarities because did not think that why would DJ creatives base a story on Nauka Dubi............but today the AHHH moment arrived..........I looked through the crew names and guess what the main creative director is a Bengali lady.......some Dr. Banerjee 😡............No wonder they showed floral ornaments on Radhika during the SR............that is a typical bengali tradition. I should have realised then.

before we had cast system and all cast had been allocated jobs so they can survive with...like kshatriya used to fight for their community and kingdom and country whatever

than vaishya used to do all business,

shudras had all law labour

than brahmin had to learn religion and scripts.....now only brahimn's job was such that they could not earn real money so we have PRATHA that we give food items and VASTRA(cloths) as dakshina......so in that way brahmin used to survive...........but as time changed all this real things took place as money......as we like easyway out......so slowly it became like business.......

actually religion is to make human being educated and knowledgible but for their selfish motive few people have converted it into ANDH SHRADHA...like if you do this ......this benifite will happen and if you dont do this GOD will be angry ........so do this puja and that puja

i was really upset when i heard about CB showing this kund bath and takshak puja to cure radhika's burn mark and it had reason.......

like my grany is ardent fan of all this drama ......and specially CB because it has all kind of prayers and all but NOW you see what kind of effact all this drama can give to tender and young mind....

my granny was watching this perticular epi .she was awestruck with this devine experience.......

but my cousin's daughter who is around 9 to 10 years old......suddenly blurt out that DEV loves RAdhika too much but no body loves me that way

all were surprised by her that emotional blurt out....my cousin asked her why is she feeling that way...........now the truth is when she was around 5 in one accident she was burned below her waist and her skin is really not in good condition but doctor said as she is young they will perform plastic surgery when she will grow....

so from that scene ........she told her mom DEV kept hard VRat for radhika and she is cured now but no body loves me that much so no body did that prayer for me and see i have ugly body and i cannot even wear short skirt and nice dress like my friends

she was emotionally tormented.......after.........now it was difficult to make her understand that whatever they are showing in DRama is false and not possible in real life...........her tender mind was not ready to believe.....that such things my elder are watching with great faith........how oculd it be WRONG

and misti the book you have written about ....i loved your post and actually reading those things i forced to write here otherwise now a days i am avoiding writing anything about drama as i am not watching any.............

so from that i remember KAvivar TAgor had another book Name TWO sister..........in this drama also one sister's husband fancied for his sali..............and on that book one drama also they made on ZEE long back........Pallavi joshi and Harsh chhaya was in that drama as main character the other two i dont remember the name.............

luckily in CB still dev does not love vishakha.............that is only positive thing has left.....

I did not mind your response at all....I am sorry to hear about your cousins daughter. This is the reason why such things should not be show on TV........by this I mean girls getting burned deliberately, then the victim doing hocus pocus to protect the main culprit.........also the culprit is now roaming free with no sign of retribution in sight and then the most idiotic gufa track. Like your cousins daughter, there are hundreds of girls in India who do get burned either as a result of an accident or as victims of deliberate attempts.........these people live with the physical and psychological scars through out their lives and when serials make a mockery of their pains by showing such stupid and irresponsible tracks, its not fair to the real life victims. The production houses and the tv channels for their own financial gains do not care of the effects of what they are showing on the viewers. I hope that your cousins daughter is on the way to her recovery and best of luck and love from me to her.

As for the religeous things.....most of the stuff that they are showing is crap. As far as I know God is not sadistic and will not want the devotees to suffer. People go to God for relief and not for more sufferings.There are instances in the villages where priests have taken advantage of simple peoples naivete and innocence..........serials should highlight these things ans also show that these actions are not right.....but here they are doing just the opposite.

Regarding the story written by Rabindranath Tagore.........are you talking about Chokher Bali..........it was also made into a movie and had Aishwariya Rai as one of the main leads. In the book the characters were not sisters but were friends. I don't know which tv serial you are talking about.....but they could have adpted it and made it more complicated for the tv audience.

Thought finally Ramesh meets Hemamalini, why is it called "nauka doobi"? Shouldn't it have been "finally nauka rescued"?

I hope the creatives do copy some good story and do not take just part of it and do their own 'tod-marod', I can accept if they lift it straight without adding their BS twists. Whatever they are doing is just half-baked. I do not look down upon them if they give me fully baked lifted story ideas

Bee the story was called Nauka doobi because the entire story started du to that incident.

As for the CB creatives we are not that lucky to get any intelligent story line from them 😡

thanks misti...and i will convey your love and wishes to her and i do agree with you ...through TV and using drama as strong medium they should give true and strong message to audiance.............specially uneducated and dominated by suprems..but sad to say our drama make fail to do so

and the stroy i am talking about it not chokhar bali but it's name is TWO sister ......and its story is about elder sister was very good and exactely like RAdhika while younger sister was bit like free bird and CHANCHAL

while elder sister's husband is also bit fashionable and CHANCHAL...so when elder sister fall sick she call her younger sister to help her with her house and that time jija and sali get atracted to eachother because younger sister's husband has gone to london for further study......

one day younger siter realised her mistake and went back to her house but she get letter from her husband that now he had married to some white woman and not coming back so younger sister again go back to her jija

while elder sister know everytthing about all this jija sali love affair but keep her mouth shut......because she loves her husband and sister unconditionaly...............

Yikes!!!! I think you are talking about "Dui Bon" or "Two Sisters"!!!!!! Oh please no!!!

Two Sisters is one of Tagore's last three novels. It is about the eternal conflict that arises when a man does not find a mother figure and a sweetheart in the same person. He needs the former and desires the latter. Man draws strength from the mother in a woman and inspiration from the beloved on her. When the two do not meet in the same individual, his heart is torn asunder. The poignancy and the tender irony of its theme makes Two Sisters one of the finest Tagore novels.

I do not want Radhika to be used as the elder sister..........Dui bon is a very tender book.........don't know what the creatives are going to turn it into..............PLEASE NO!!!!!

I don't think creatives will go with Dui behen as Dev has never seeked mother figure in Radhika. He gets it with Dadi as shown in so many episodes. He only wants to see premika in Radhika. At most, he expects some wife like things from her which she is expert into doing such as serving him, taking out his clothes etc. As far as Vishaka is concerned, she is just a bad memory and he can't tolerate that selfishness at all.

1. Kanha likes to give unhappiness to his ardent devotees and that's why Radhika wasn't saved from her burns.

9. What does it matter if this track gives wrong message of letting criminals go free as long as the ratings are high and your show becomes number 1?

He has seen Radhika as a Premika when she dances for Kanha. That's what he desires to see for himself. I am sure when he gets extremely upset and angry with Radhika, she will turn into that to pacify him (at least I hope so). So, unless they decide to totally spoil the show, they will never show him attracted to Vishaka even in his sleep.

Few years ago, there was a show on Zee based exactly on this story. The same train accident, the same confusion about the brides, it was a torture to watch that serial on Zee. Forgot its name, but it was in 2002/2003/2004 I think.
