Move over Shivaji, Veer has arrived

Following in Rajinikanth's footsteps, Salman Khan fans are going crazy and worshipping his cutouts

Worshipping movie stars has been a trend in the film industry down south. But that trend is being replicated in Bollywood following the success of Salman Khan starrer Veer.

His fans are worshipping his cutouts, organising special aartis and even offering prayers for Veer's success at temples across India.

Shreenivas Kamath, a student and a member of the Salman Fan Club in India, said, "In Lucknow, we organised a special aarti at a temple to pray for him while in Chennai, fans poured milk on Salman's Veer poster.

The Salman Khan fan club sent the star a cake to celebrate the success of the film.

In Hyderabad, fans have been worshipping him with garlands. Hyderabad, Rajasthan and Kolkata are Salman's strongest fan bases."

To congratulate Salman on Veer's success, Kamath's club sent him a chocolate cake with icing in the shape of Veer.

Activities

Kamath, who claims to be Salman's fan since the actor's first film Biwi Ho Toh Aisi (1988), said, "Our fan club was started in 2005 and we have more than 50,000 members.

Some of them are from Pakistan, Bangladesh and even Romania. Last year, we even collected money for his NGO Being Human."

Hit Hai, Boss

According to trade reports, Veer pulled in Rs 32 crore in India and Rs 9 crore overseas in the first weekend.

Salman's last hit Wanted netted Rs 17.25 crore during the same period.

Nandu Ahuja, SVP, Eros International Media said, "With Salman's huge fan base, we were confident that Veer would be a huge draw."

I remember during Wanted in bangalore the fans had put garlands on the posters. That is still fine, but worshipping and pouring milk is taking things too far.
