Criteria for choosing contestants

Hi everyone,
So after watching the mega auditions, I kind of got the feel that perhaps some of the decisions the judges took (especially Geeta) were kind of unfair. I felt really bad for some of the really deserving dancers. For example, Amrita who I really thought deserved the spot over Tina. I mean, like she herself said afterwards, she hadn't given one bad performance, she is so trained and an dedicated and an amazing dancer. She's always tried to do something different, her manipuri dance was amazing! But still she didn't make it?!! I was definitely as confused as she was when she said to the camera that she had no idea what exactly the judges were looking for.
And I felt that for the guys that Geeta selected as well. I thought the guy who did the mime dance had better control over his dance than the guy who did the twist dance (sorry I forget their names).
So really my point is, it's so confusing as to what exactly the judges are looking for. I guess they would be looking for a bit of everything- as in obviously the dance moves themselves, and how lively the performance comes out, whether it shows their passion/ love for dance, etc. But I wish the judges would state exactly why the contestants they refused did not make it you know? Just so they would know where they lacked.
I mean I realize that the judges are human and are prone to mistakes and maybe it's like whoever manages to touch the judges in some way makes it? Like in any other interview or competition, only the people who stand out in some way or manage to make an impact beyond what's expected make it? I guess maybe I'm answering my own question now. 😕😆 But do you guys also feel that the criteria for selection is kind of vague and it should more standardized? Or should it just be left upto the judges as it is now and whoever manages to make the biggest impact should be the one who deserves the spot? I mean how the heck do you decide?? Maybe that's why they have the audience and the judges voting later on in the show. 🤔😆
It also kind of makes me think about life in general. Just as in, no matter how talented you are you still might not make it far in life. I guess you need that luck or fate by your side as well. Really messed up world man...😕😆
🤣 Did I make any sense at all?? 😕 Sorry if I confused you guys! As you can see I am a pretty confused soul myself. 😆 Mera kuch nahin ho sakta! *shakes head* I just wanted to write out all these thoughts here so thanks for reading peeps. I would seriously love to hear everyone's thoughts on this, maybe you can help out a poor confused soul like myself? It's worth a try, haina? 😆
P.S. I really liked how Terrence had the second round of auditions, I guess you could say to decide between Jack and that other guy. And how he admitted that he may have made the wrong decision. It kind of made me feel for the judges and I could see that they were trying their best to be fair. 👍🏼
Mann I am in such a philosophical/ thinking mood today...lol
Any thoughts you guys have would be ❤️

Ah with some of the selections, I awed and sighed truly in the past days while watching it on TV, especially Geeta's way of selecting. Honestly, to me, it seems that she picked Tina over the other contestant because she was more 'popular' evidently with the screams and applauses from the crowd. At the end of the day, it's about the masters and which one makes that one dancing star, so based from that, Geeta thought she'd be at an advantage with Tina which was a completely biased decision. Also, I was disappointed with the decision of her picking the Twist guy over the mime one...hello? The only memorable step of the Twist guy was the twist itself while the other guy was consistent throughout his performance. Geeta at this time seems to have more of the contestants who may in the future bag votes in terms of appearance, rather than talent itself, which I assume is what her goal initially was.

Terrance's decision on the girls was fine, but then with boys, he rejected Melvin over the Hydrabadi dude which didn't seem right to me, but most of his choices seemed consistent. The Kunwar guy seemed to improve tremendously from his initial auditions; I was impressed.

Remo this year seems to have the best of girls and I mostly agreed with his eliminations. They weren't wild or erratic to make us go huh, wth? As a viewer, I agreed with him. He seemed restrictive with the boys he has this year, but the choices seemed alright there too. He has a good variety which may work in his favor.

All in all, I am not disappointed with the decisions of Terrance and Remo because they can be reasoned a way or another, but Geeta has made me question the format and basis of selection. Of course I realize this is a TRP based show with the mentors attempting to showcase their style while making a dancing superstar. Thus, one way or another, there's a mutual relationship, and Geeta seems in the need of votes and people support...it hints at that. She clearly made the decision upon predicting appeal and such...Ugh...whatever, lets see what happens.

^^ That's a really good point! I like your practical thinking. And here I was going on and on about life and maybe people who make an impact make it far and a whole bunch of crap. 😆
But ya that def. makes alot of sense as to why Geeta would pick the seemingly less deserving people! I forgot about the whole dancing 'star' and popularity aspect of this show.
I was actually watching this show with my dad and as soon as he saw Tina's dance, he goes "WOW, that girl was amazing" while I was like ya she's got spunk and energy but really her dancing was not all that great. So I guess since Tina performed a high energy bollywood type of dance instead of a classical one, people were more drawn to her. I mean the audience mostly judges from the entertainment value as opposed to the technical dancing aspects. And so ya like you said, now I see why Geeta chose Tina. Thanks for the insight. 😆
And did you notice how the 'twist' dude was wayyy better looking than the 'mime' dude? Just sayin'. ;) 😆
I have a feeling I'm not going to be liking Geeta much as the show progresses....not to take this way too seriously, but these kinds of things really make me loose faith in fairness in the world. Khair kya kar sakte hain. lol

Haha, oh my, yes, my sister while watching the show even said the exact words..'The twist dude is really good looking.' It's sad to see us behave that way, but at times our psychology works that way, especially in these times with so much focus on appearance and materialistic ends. But still in no way should talent be sacrificed or ignored over that. It sometimes is shattering to know that the real world also works that way, and it somewhat is true that appearance at times is what makes or breaks a being...disgusting!

Oh, and have you also noticed how Mithun behaves with the girls, Lol. I won't get into the debate of him being a credible judge, but his behavior at times seems suspicious, hah. He praises the good looking girls and makes sure to compliment on their appearance as if that is apparently on the checklist to judge good dance. His decision to keep Khushboo last year for a few episodes to add the appearance aspect to the show over other deserving contestants made my doubts valid. Lol.

I am with you on Geeta's note. This year, I feel the show will highlight the outer appearance, votes, regions, and such more than dancing, and I also feel that Geeta will be a leader in those departments. I despise how every contestant has a state or region associated with their names, because that takes out from the competition. It's not about people voting for you because you're from Mumbai or Delhi, but it should rather be for your skills.

These things just prove further how pretentious our society has turned out to be even after accomplishments in various fields.

Totally, bang on yaar. That is the human psychology I guess, we like anything that is easy on the eyes. And anything that's entertaining.
When DID started out last year, I could see the judges actually wanting to explore talent. But as the show went on and got competitive you could see that the judges' main motive was for their team to win (esp. Geeta and Remo). So this year it seems some of them (i.e. Geeta) might be starting out with that aim again. I really hope we don't see some of the stuff we saw last year with some of the judges using the contestants for their own benefit and all, but I have a feeling there will be a lot of that this year as well, esp. since the start only is like this.
And going back to my life ka funda wali philosophy, in a world where there are millions of talented people, I think only those who know how hit the perfect string so to say with the audience make it far. I mean some people just naturally have an outer charisma/ personality more than other people which could work to their advantage. And appearance could def. play a role in that outer charisma thing. We as humans connect to other humans right? So if we see something that attracts us in an individual, naturally we'll be drawn to them. So even if you're extremely talented and trained and you lack that outter appeal, you could go nowhere. So I think that plays a part in people's success as well. It's really sad we as humans can't be more open minded and just judge people on their actions/ talents and not other factors.
O and DO NOT get me started on Mithunda yaar! LOL Even my mom noticed his really obvious behaviour with girls and she's watching DID for the first time. She herself said to me, "the first thing that guy says to all the girls is that you're so pretty!" Ya, he's another mahaan hasthi in himself. 👏 I'm glad he's still a part of DID though, he's really easy to laugh at. 😆 See there you go, now I'm choosing entertainment over a fair judge too! 😲 I don't think we'll ever get another 'fair' judge in his place though so we might as well laugh at him and get entertained nahin? lol
