Jyoti - Characters
Jyoti (Played by: Sneha Wagh): Intelligent, attractive yet sober. Jyoti comes from a middle class family and is working in an orphanage (Sishu Mangal), to help her family financially. She has been working since the age of 16, which is when her father fell ill and never regained full health. Being the eldest of the siblings, all the responsibilities came on her and she took them on without being complacent about it.
Jyoti loved dancing, and dance to wild abandon. She was the lead dancer of a famous fusion dance group "Bhaghya Asthana's" group. She would wait every evening to finish work at the orphanage and rush to her rehearsals. Indian as she was, Jyoti strongly refused to wear to skimpy or 'bare all' clothes.
Jyoti shares a very deep emotional bond with her father. A lot of it goes in sighs and sharing silences. Her mother, Padma makes sure that all the marriage proposals are rejected as she didn't want to lose her golden goose, and the sole earning member of the family.
Sudha (Played by Sriti Jha): Sudha is the second eldest of the siblings. Is much suppressed, introvert and has concealed feelings. At the age of 7 she was sent off to her grandmother's place in a village to stay away from the financial crisis the family was going through. Sudha misses the love, care and affection which she never received from her parents and this is the reason she is always found amongst books. Sudha has always envied her classmates and friends for the love and affection they received from their parents. The longing for affection has given Sudha a split personality.
Sandeep (Played by Varun Khandelwal): Sandeep is fondly called Deepu and is Jyoti's brother. A laid back person with a typical MCP attitude!! In spite of financial problems at home he like his mother too believes that Jyoti is there to take care of all the problems, while he enjoys his time faffing around. As he is the only son amongst the three daughters he has been pampered to the hilt and turned into a brat. During the course of time he gets carried away and indulges himself in unpleasant activities.
Sushma (Played by Srinidhi Shetty): College going girl! Sushma simply loves aping her idol, Jyoti. Sushma would copy Jyoti in every which way one could think of' move to move, word to word. If Jyotidi would say "abhishek acha actor nahin hai", Sushma would take it as the final word and repeat the same, and on someone correcting her, sushma would say "aisa hi hai, kyon ki jyotidi ne kaha"' Sushma even liked the very people whom Jyoti would get along, and hate the very same people jyotidi would hate. Jyoti is Sushma's 'Heroine' and she makes it very apparent to all about it. Jyoti in turn, did those little things, like she would give her some money for college on the sly without her mother ever knowing about it, which only made the bond between these two sisters stronger.
Padma (Played by Zaida Parveen): A woman who has seen the dark side life after marriage! Mentally tortured and physically drained out she has been through a lot in her life for not giving a birth to a son. After Jyoti's birth her in-laws came down heavily on her and she in turn passed on some to Jyoti. Post Sudha's birth the situation worsened. Jyoti and Sudha collectively had to bear the brunt of it all. It was only after Deep's birth that the situation improved and she showered all her love on Deep. Her relationship with her husband, Umed has deteriorated over time and now is strained; leave alone a smile they never have had a pleasant conversation in years. Somewhere, life has left Padma bitter. She does not want Jyoti to get married as she is the sole earning member!
Kamal Kishore (Played by Sanjay Batra): once a hale and hearty person is now totally opposite. Situations and circumstances have changed him. He has been a mute spectator to the hardships that his wife has faced in the initial stages of their marriage. He is regretful of those incidents and feels nothing can be done now to undo the past. He shares a strong emotional bond with Jyoti and empathises with her! He wants to find a right groom for Jyoti and get her married off, but deep down feels if Jyoti, the sole earning member were to get married the family will disintegrate and eventually get wiped off. He is bed ridden most of the times, and moves around in a wheelchair
Brij (Played by Samir Sharma): He is the lead singer of the group "Bhagya Asthana", and was the proverbial 'Krishna Kanhaiyya'. He is handsome and a good looker. He is a big charmer and would keep everyone in splits with his humor. This extra bit charmed Jyoti and she had lost her heart to him. Slowly the two began to share a 'close' relationship with each other. But deep down, Brijesh has ulterior motives.
Kalpana (Played by Kalpana Bora): A dear friend and confidante of Jyoti's! Jyoti was lucky to have Kalpana as her friend. A medical student, Kalpana came from a well-to-do family, who treated Jyoti as their own daughter. Kalpana's mother was 'amma' and father 'papa' and brother 'bhaiyya' to Jyoti. Much of Jyoti's stability came from Kalpana and her family.
Pankaj (played by Sarwar Ahuja), 27, is the middle son of the family. He is the most handsome, brilliant and jovial among the brothers. Though ironically he is the most suitable one, who could have most efficiently looked after the family business, due to his blindness, he had compromised with the situation and had chosen his career in teaching as their family business required more visual involvement to know the trends in the market and choose the right kind of products to satisfy importers' demands. After Pankaj accidentally lost his vision at a very early age, he pursued his studies further and qualified in masters of Hindi and English literature. Currently, he works as a lecturer in English literature in the University of the city. Despite his handicap, he performs his duties as a teacher excellently and is loved among the students as a remarkable professor as well as a person. His bond with students is unique and he answers their queries in a passionate, simple and unique manner.
