I kind of addressed it earlier but I find the "it had a good message" defense pretty lame as well. Just because the film has a moralistic tale to tell does not mean that it is a good film. If the message is not delivered well (as in you are clobbered on the head with monologues or plot-holes distract you from the underlying message) then that is not a good film.

Having good intentions does not make a good film.

^^^ I agree, I have been given that line so many times.
Another thing that bothers me is (which is not a defence for a movie more a marketing ploy) when filmakers use taglines like 'From the makers of Oscar nominated.............(of so and so)..' or From the 'hugely successful and critically acclaimed makers of ...........' to reach out to there audiences.
I hate it when Filmmakers deliberately try to milk the past success/ critical acclaim of a movie, to a new release. Each movie should be assessed or judged, sold etc... on its own merit, as the criteria is always going to be different for every release.

Well they are just fooling themselves cauz most of these movies that they give defences for sink without a trace at box office any ways and then these producers give these defences to their "creditors" who are not no mood to listen if the movie that crashed at bo was a brainless comedy or breakless shatabdi express!

Geet, I usually ask the person 'What's so good about this message?' and that usually shuts them up.

Hear hear, and that is how Ashutosh Gawaaaaaaarikar advertises his movies-- 'From the Oscar Nominated Director, Ahustosh Gowarikar, comes an intense lowe story about zodiac signs'

Uh, hello? Last time I checked, Ashu was NOT nominated for 'Best Director' at the Oscars.

The thing is, most of these mind-numbingly stupid movies DO well at the Box Office, which brings me to my next lazy defense line for a movie:

'It made so much money at the box office, so it HAS to be good.'

At the top of my head? Namastey London. Wasn't KI a smash hit at the box office as well?

Well, Govinda dancing in his Superman chaddi is not only entertaining, but thought provoking as well.

KI isnt that big of a hit.. Namaste london wasnt that great either.. Ya I guess some of them manage to do good and OSO is also a great example. Seriously it seemed Srk shot that one in his Mannat's backyard and that movie had no supporting actors they just made the crew mouth dialoges. But audience isnt that forgiving.. Sometimes they trust a movie because that star's last movie was good and they think the next one might be good too.. So Srk fooled people in OSO.so... people didnt support his Rab ne.. and it was a smart choice cauz Rab ne sucked too..And what is Srk's excuse for doing all these item numbers with 10000000000000000000000000000000000000 heriones in a song in EVery freakin movie.. seriously he is addicted to it now and cant even stop..LOL
Other Lame excuse ya many actors say that.. OMG *** Flana falana sir.. inko toh main kabhi mana kar hi nahi sakti.. I just did their movie without even reading sthe script! How could I say no to them.. bla bla.. yeh chalega.. ya lame movie ka excuse chahiye? Lol..

Ugh I HATE that "turn your brains off" crap that we have to hear from directors/actors, when they try selling a film.
I just absoultely dislike bollywood comedies, I personally don't find them to be entertaining at all .. it's like they try too hard.
Bollywood just honestly comes out with a lot of crap. Last good movie I remember seeing was A Wednesday (I personally just LOVED it).
