Thank u guys, what lovely comments. I have written the longest part of this ff now. I hope u all like it. Thank you all sooooooo much!!!

Part 9

Mayank had no trouble finishing the test. He was done early so he left for the library signaling nupur thumbs up wishing her good luck. Nupur noticed mayank giving her thumbs up to which she just smiled. After the clock hit the hour mark all test papers were collected. Meanwhile mayank in the library instead of concentrating in his books for his awaited research paper kept on thinking about nupur and hoped that nupur was having no trouble finishing the test, she worked so hard for it, he thought. After finishing the test nupur felt content she ran out of the room searching for mayank to pour out all that she felt, but mayank was no where to be found. Suddenly it clicked in her head, the library.

She headed to the library running in her morena express speed. When she reached the library her eyes searched for mayank. She went deeper and deeper into the room, but did not see him. Finally her eyes landed on a person sitting all alone behind bunch of books. She got all excited to tell him about how comfortable she was during the test all thanks to him. Forgetting that she was in the library, in her excitement she just yelled, "mayank"!

Mayank's thoughts just shattered as soon as he heard his name out loud, really loud. He was initially surprised because no one in the library speaks that loud. He looked at the source and just became surprised for a bit. Nupur saw him and became very happy and hurried to him. Still not realizing that she is in the library spoke pretty loud,"mayank! tumhe pata hai ..." she was cut off by mayank when he said whispering, "Nupur yeh library hai". Nupur still too excited too even register what he said in her loud tone said "toh?". Mayank couldn't believe it, she is impossible he thought, he just looked at her with keen eyes as to what is she doing speaking so loud in the library where everyone is just looking at them, embarrassed he looked down. At that point Nupur's shoulder got tapped. She ignored it. Again someone tapped her shoulder. This time nupur just turned in a haste and spoke loudly again, "kya hai, pata nahin chalta ke mein ..." just as she was about to finish her sentence her mind registered Professor Shukla standing right in front of her. She was shocked! and innocently lowered her face. While mayank looked up as to what happened? Why did nupur's buckbuck stop?

S (Professor Shukla with an angry face): Muhade yaha par agar aap unchi awaaz na nikale toh acha hai.

N (innocently): sorry sir woh galati se.

S(angry murmured to himself): aaj kal ke shastar! (saying this he left).

Nupur saw Shukla walking away moving his hand through his hair. Anger sort of took over her by now as she turned and sat right next to mayank. Nupur's face was totally flushed. Mayank noticed her face getting all red, he found it cute. Her face had so many expressions she was going all laal and pilli, he thought to himself. He smiled to himself seeing her like that.

M: (coming close to Nupur's ear, teasingly) kya hua?

N: (angrily still a bit loud) Kya hua matalab?!

Everyone looked at Nupur and went shhh!!!, Nupur looked here and there and lowered her voice amplitude and turned to meet mayank in the face and started to whisper and mumble.

N: tum mujhe baata nahin saakte the ke shukla sir mere piche hai?

M: Ummmh…. Nupur woh…..

N: (cutting mayank) woh kya? Mujhe toh lagta hai mayank tum na bilkul hindi filmo ki police ki tarah ho. Jo time par kabhi aati nahin aur tum time par kabhi bolte nahin, By God! Kya zammana aa gaya hai!

M: (uninterested looked at Nupur sternly) ho gaya?

N: (simply nodded innocently)

M: pehli baat library mein koi uncha nahin bolta, doosri baat shukla sir tumhare piche hai yeh mujhe nahin paata tha, hindi filmo ki police ke baare mein mujhe koi knowledge nahin par mayank sharma kissi baat ke liye late nahin hota. Toh baatao Ms. Drama queen aapka test kaisa gaya?

N: (remembering the test all of anger, sadness vanished in a split second and she became all excited and loudly said) Pata hai!! (became aware that she was loud again, lowered her volume and came closer to mayank looking at him straight in the eye) pata hai mayank, yeh pehla test hai jis mein mujhe itna confidence toh zaroor hai ke 90 se upar marking hogi.

M: (smiling) Par mujhe se zyaada nahin ho sakti.

N: By God! Mayank tum toh paake paadako aur competitor ho. Par sambhal ke sahib kahin Nupur Bushan ke samne phisal na jaana.

M: Nupur off topic jaana ho toh uski classes mein tumse zaroor lunga. Par agar tumhe koi aitrazz na ho toh mein research kar lo?

N: toh meine kab maana kia hai? Itni der se tum hi toh baatein kare jaa rahe ho. Yeh toh wohi baat hui na ke …..

M: (eyeing nupur) NU…P…UR!

N: okay baba sorry. Karo research.

Nupur started to go through some magazines that she brought with her. Mayank started his research. Mayank was so relieved to find out that Nupur did an awesome job on the test. I hope she makes it above 90 man, she'll be so happy, thought mayank. Mayank tu pagal ho gaya, tu kyun uske baare mein hi socha raha hai! I think parsad ka asar hai. Dekh mayank! research paper par focus kar. Par yaar uski khushi mein mujhe khushi kyun milti hai? Na jaane kyoun uski irritating se harkate bhi sweet aur innocent lagti hai. Kabhi pehle toh nahin aisa kuch hua ke koi smile kare aur automatically mere face par bhi uksi smile reflect kare. Mayank Focus!!! But his eye caught something. He looked towards it and saw it. He couldn't believe it! Nupur was reading a magazine that too in college, that too in the library, that too when her research paper is also due a week from today for the same class. He thought, what in the world is she doing reading a magazine? I thought she came here to also do research. Yeh ladki nah!!!

M: (sternly) Nupur.

N: (engrossed in the magazine) ek minute mayank.

M: (again more sternly) Nupur!

N: (annoyed) kya hai mayank! Itna interesting article paad rahi thi aur tum ho ke. Kya hai?

M: (smiling teasingly) acchaa! Iska reference le liya?

N: (confused) reference?

M: nahin maine socha ki apne paper mein tum bollywood articles cite kar rahi ho.

N: (bit angry) dekho mayank yeh golmol baatein baand karo. Aur seedhe seedhe baat karo. Aur waise bhi golmol baatein kareine par sirf laadkiyon ka hak hai. Smajhe Mr. Einstein.

M: (sternly) u r impossible nupur. Hamara paper due hai next week aur tum library mein yeh (pointing at her magazine) bakwaas paad rahi ho.

N: (narrowed her eyes at mayank with an open mouth) tumne ise bakwaas kaha?

M: (narrowing his eyes at her) ha kaha!

N: (pointing her finger at mayank) meri magazine baakwaas nahin hai!

M: (pointing his finger at nupur) well jo bhi ho par yeh tumhari paper mein help nahin karne wali.

N: (knowing that mayank was right came back to her senses) ummhhh … theek hai, theek hai. Par meri magazine baakwas nahin hai. Waise topic kya hai?

M: (relieved that at least she was on track now) accha toh madam ko topic bhi nahin pata. Dekho mein yaha par free ka information kiosk nahin hu.

N: (innocently) toh kya lete hai aap information dene ke liye?

Mayank looked at Nupur with u r impossible look, then he simply got up to get another book. To which Nupur thought he was leaving her and followed him to apologize. Mayank was unaware that nupur was behind him. After getting his book he turned abruptly and to his astonishment he found the world's beautiful girl so close to him, atleast that is what he thought for a split second at that moment. Nupur saw him turned, but when he turned his eyes seemed to convey something. She thought he maybe a sadu, but he is just damn so cute! Both of them came out of their slight gaze and awkward position.

N: (ignoring her feelings) woh ummhh …. Mayank plzzzz batao na topic kya hai.

M: (admired her innocence when he heard CJ).

CJ: hey guys! How was the test?

N: (excitedly) itna makhan tha! By God!

Mayank and CJ looked at each other with amusement when she said makhan.

CJ: makhan?

N: O fo CJ mera matlab ke bilkul easy tha yaar.

CJ: O!

M: waise cj research paper ready?

CJ: almost man, I have to tweek it up a bit. Kuch books check out karne ayi thi.

Nupur listened to all this and murmured to herself "Nupur is college mein agar rehana hai toh focus karna paadega! Yeh magazines chod aur mayank ki advice follow kar! By God nahin toh tera pata gul!" While talking to CJ, mayank noticed nupur, who was all tensed and also noticed her murmuring something like focus. CJ left and mayank tapped on lost Nupur's shoulder.

M: (coming close to her to meet her eyes) toh chalein?

N: (coming back to her senses) ha! Chalo focus kareien. (She led the way to the table, while mayank
smiled to himself seeing her act).

Both sat and started research. By the end of the day 2/3rds of the assignment was complete that too while fighting and chit chatting. Nupur was totally tired and Mayank thought that they should take a break. So they went to the caf and met up with samrat, gunjan, dia, benji and uday. Mayank couldn't believe he was sitting with so many people, but nupur wouldn't let him leave --- he liked this for some reason, it was a first for him. Finally mayank found a chance and dragged nupur back to the library. Nupur whined but liked the fact that he was concerned about her. Nupur constantly gagged as to how much work she is putting in at this college for assignments. Mayank laughed at her mumbles without letting her notice. They both ended up finishing up their papers, which usually takes forever to finish up. But together these two finished their papers in each other's company that too constantly bickering and fighting. The day turned into a night.

For some reason both loved it today! They couldn't hide how happy they were, now they thought it was because they finished this huge assignment that too in a day!, but little did they know that more than the paper they were happy because of the feelings that were growing in them for each other. Feelings that were made up of care, affection, trust, protection, innocence but they were not that intellectual at that time to notice that all these feeling were definitions of what was actually developing between the two ---- LOVE.

They placed their papers all close together in haste instead of leaving for their houses, because Nupur saw a shooting star from the library's window and became so excited that she dragged mayank by his arm onto the library's balcony. Mayank was touched, touched by her touch. He felt something when she touched him. He was in a dazed state when they got out onto the balcony.

N: (full heartedly smiling looking out into the city) By god mayank! Mumbai kitna pyaara lag raha hai!

M: (looking at Nupur's lit face in the full moon today) ha aaj kuch zayada hi pyaara lag raha hai. By God.

N: (shocked hearing By God, eyed mayank inquisitively) By God?

M: (came back to his senses, looking everywhere but her, spoke softly) ummmhh…. By god par kya sirf tumhara copyright hai?

N: nahin lekin tum se sun kar achha laga. By God! (she laughed making mayank laugh with her, they laughed for a good bit).

Both were completely lost having a good time talking to each other about random stuff. There was so much they wanted to share with each other, and it seemed they would continue to talk like this forever.

N: pata hai mayank, Mumbai toh lights se lit up hai, lekin hamara morena taaro se barah hota hai. Itna pyaara lagta hai ke kya baatao, itni shanti thi aur Mumbai pura shor se bhara hai (lost in morena she walked up to the balcony's rail and placed her hand on it).

M: Baateine ki zararrot toh nahin hai kyun ki tumhare face pe jo is waqt khushi hai us se pata chal raha hai. Par tum baatke toh rahogi (Remembered something, walked up to nupur, before she continued her taaro ki story) suno.

N: (dazed into the city) hmmmm.

M: (closes on to her and stands besides her) morena ki yaad aa rahi hai?

N: (saddened) hmmm.

M: (trying to make her cheer) toh mere saath chalo. (Saying this he grabbed her hand and looked at her, he noticed her reaction which instantly hit him was possibly because of his hand holding so he instantly let it go).

N: (she felt something, something like a shiver when his hand touched hers, but she felt unpleasant when he instantly let go, bringing her back to reality) kahan?

M: bharosa hai na (saw her nod a yes) toh bus chalo.

Nupur the inquisitive one, didn't want to ask him further. She just trusted him. Unable to comprehend as to why --- she simply just followed him. They stopped to grab their papers and bags and took off. Mayank leading the way. They walked for a quite a bit, while nupur zapped on and on about her morena stories.

N: pata hai mayank, itne roses le kar aaye the … (she was annoyed when she looked at mayank, he seemed so uninterested ---- she stopped and tapped him on his shoulder). Tum meri baatein sun bhi rahe ho?

M: (He looked at nupur as if what in the world is she saying, then he remembered he had earplugs in his ears that he bought after meeting nupur few days back --- he took them out in front of her) ab bolo.

N: (open mouthed watched mayank take out earplugs, angrily with her hands on her hips) TUM!

M: (seeing her reaction) woh na …. (seeing her fuming he just ran!).

N: (running after mayank) Ruko!!!!!!

Both ran for a while, mayank laughing and nupur angry. But seeing mayank not in front of her anymore nupur just stopped. She wondered where did he go? "Itna andhera aur yeh kaha gayab ho gaya, yeh kaun si jagah hai?! Aur mujhe kehta hai mujh par bharosa karo." She was breathless. She yelled "mayank!", "mayank!" She looked here and there couldn't find him. She kept on walking forward calling out mayank's name.

Mayank hid behind a tree running to the hilltop that he wanted nupur to see under the full moon today. Peeking at Nupur once in a bit, he laughed to himself seeing her vulnerable side the same side he saw when she saw that roach in his house. He wanted to tease her, but also wanted to see her expressions when she sees Mumbai from this hilltop. So he started to come out his hiding place.

Nupur stopped, couldn't believe what she saw. She looked down from the hilltop. The city looked amazing so much better than from that library balcony, she was so happy to see Mumbai like this. So quiet, so serene, so beautiful, she forgot all about her fear. She simply was taken away by the view, it looked very nice. She had a cute smile on her face. Mayank couldn't help but gaze at her for some moments with that cute smile on her face that also formed on his face. He came out of his gazing state and slowly creeped up at nupur from behind.

Nupur felt something moving behind her. Her nerves were going berserk. Her heart rate uncontrollably increased. She was cursing mayank, who left her all alone. She was angry, mad, scared all at the same time. She thought who is behind me? Could it be mayank? Mayank where are u? U monkey! Agar mein bach gayi aaj toh tumhari khair nahin bachu! She felt a cold hand near her right shoulder, she turned suddenly with closed eyes and screamed on top of her lungs.

Mayank neared her was about to touch her shoulder, his hand was just centimeters away when he saw her turn all of a sudden with closed eyes and heard her scream, a scream that was really loud. For a second he thought why did I take out my earplugs? I should have known this reaction. But the next thing he noticed was nupur hugging him as if her whole life depended on him. He was astonished for a second.

Nupur screamed and then opened her eyes. Seeing mayank she was so relieved! Fear had taken a toll on her for a minute, but now she was so enthralled to see mayank right in front of her. She was just so thankful and happy to see mayank standing in front of her at that point. Those blissful feelings were so overwhelming that she couldn't help it, she instantly just hugged him. As soon as she hugged him she felt protected, protected from all the fear and harm. Soon she felt one of his arm lightly rested on her waist and the other arm on her back. In his arms she felt at home. Away from the world close to him everything seemed endearing.

Mayank came out of his astonishment and felt the fear that Nupur wanted to just liberate. He felt like he wanted to help her do away with the fear. He naively placed one of his arms around her waist and the other around her back very lightly, so that she doesn't feel uncomfortable.

Below the full moon, above the city in a slight breeze these two just stood like this for several minutes as if two lovers were meeting after a while. The feeling they were experiencing at this moment was more than just feeling protected, it was something more divine. It was heavenly, something that was inexpressible. They felt content together, as if do dil ek jaan. Nupur felt a tingling sensation on her nape when she felt his warm breath. He liked the warmth on his chest which sent shivers down his spine.

Slowly nupur started to come back to her senses that were so calm in his hold. When she started to feel his warm breath on her nape that is when she started to come out of her dazed state and hug. Slowly but steadily she backed out. Mayank feeling her loosen her hold on him also started to come back to his senses. Mayank felt displeased letting her go, but knew that was the right thing to do. Both were close to each other still, but were not sure how to react. They looked everywhere but at each other. Mayank tried to be the first to get rid of the uneasiness that lay between the two after this moment, because both knew they felt something more than friendship brewing between them when they hugged.

M: toh ummhh… kaisa laga mumbai?

N: (soft tone feeling uneasy)ummh… thanks mayank … (than it hit her realizing how scared she was minute ago … so she started at mayank) Mayank! Tum mujhe marna chahte ho! Agar mujhe heart attack ho jata toh? (pointing her finger at him) Ek toh tum meri baat nahin sunte ho aur ab mujhe darrna chahte ho, aaj toh tum nahi bacho ge, By God! (she started chasing him lightly)

M: (smiling seeing her normal self as she chased him around) Dekho nupur, tum itna darti ho aur waise aise dikhati ho jaise Jhansi ki rani ho.

N: (hitting mayank on his chest lightly) tum na!

M: (holding her hand that lightly hit his chest, smiling) acha baba sorry and u r welcome.

They both shared an eye lock for a moment as they held onto each other's hand. They looked into each other's eyes as if nothing else existed around them. Finally they came out of their gazes and they quickly took away their hands from each other.

M: (feeling a bit different) ghar chalein?

N: (feeling a bit different, shyly) hmmm.

On their way home both didn't talk much. They were lost in today's thoughts, all the conversations that took place between them. The sweet and simple gestures. They were completely lost. He liked the fact that she prayed for him and brought parasad for. She liked the fact that she was so important to him. He liked the trust she held for him. She liked the closness and the comfort that was developing between them. All night they thought about their hug, their touch, their chasing, their running, above all their feelings. Such feelings that were never a part of their lives before, such feelings that were becoming uncontrolled, such feelings that always seeked the other, such feelings that wanted the other's care, such feelings that looked only for him and only for her.

In this week before turning in the assignment both grew closer to each other moreso. In this week mayank took the upset nupur to a beach. She was upset because she was the reason that gunjan was upset. She had tricked Gunjan into auditioning for the talent parade. Mayank cheered up nupur by taking her to the beach. Mom kept on teasing him, while nupur haunted him day and night. All mayank nowdays talked about was Nupur even in his work for college. Whereas Nupur shared her outings that mayank took her to with Gunjan, unable to take mayank off of her thoughts too.

Nupur in this week presudaded mayank to dance with her in the talent parade. They would practice for talent parade, laugh and work on class assignments together after practice. He was taken away with this small town girl. She was taken away by this simple sober straightforward city guy. Finally they turned in their papers the next week as the preparations for talent parade were on the peak. They were going to dance on "pyaar ki kahani" from honeymoon travels. Even though Nupur wanted to do a remix version, but mayank explained to her how much he hated copied work, so they ended up picking out pyaar ki kahani.

After they turned in their research papers came diwali. Everyone were invited to samrat's house. Mayank afcourse did not want to go. But since Nupur had to go to mayank's house to discuss about their media studies project with his mother, she dragged him to samrat's house along with her. Mayank never enjoyed so much in his life, everything's been fun in his life ever since nupur arrived. After diwali celebrations they got their research papers and test back graded. Nupur couldn't believe it! She scored the same as mayank. Same scoring as the most intelligent guy in the college. Mayank was so happy for Nupur, a girl who was careless, scored the same score as him, he did not know why but he felt so happy. But it was strange for him because this was a 1st --- he never felt happy for a competitor. But he was so happy for her!

M: nupur papers aur test toh review karne do.

N: chodo na mayank! Aaj dance practice ka aakhir din hai. Please mujhe khush toh hone do.

Nupur snatched the papers out of his hands and laid them aside and practiced with him. Whenever they practiced together they would have uncontrollable feelings that they loved for each other unknowingly. They reached home for the night. Nupur went to sleep feeling really on top of the world and ready for talent parade. Mayank was getting ready to go to sleep all happy after sharing all what happened regarding grades and his feelings for what he called "friend" nupur with his mother remembered that he did not review his graded papers. First he reviewed his test, than his paper. As soon as he read his paper he realized it was not his, it was nupur's but it had his name on it. He was confused at first. Then he realized nupur cheated him. She switched the papers, he thought. Could it be so? This misunderstanding took over him. He couldn't believe it, a girl he trusted so much cheated him. He thought, she took my paper and made it hers and gave me her paper, possibly because she felt her paper did not deserve the grade she got. He was in disbelief. The next day was talent parade, being mayank he promised himself to keep the promise of performing, but also promised himself to teach nupur a lesson.

Part 10 to be continued soon. The start of part 10 will be a bit similar to real mjht when MN fight because I felt that part should be kept like that it was so MN like, so my story (new scenes that I would like to see) will start post confession in part 10 and will continue till they marry.
