Chhote Miyan Bade Miyan has proved to be an extremely successful show for Colors. And the channel now wants to cash in some more by converting it into a biweekly show. While the show's admirers will certainly welcome this move it's evoking mixed reactions from the contestants. The bone of contention for some contestants is the increase in working hours.
"I'm surprised by this change. Worse, we were not even consulted before the show's custodians took this decision. Some of us have other commitments and thus our schedule goes for a toss. This change has taken place since the last two shoots, whereby we had to spend 8-9 hours at the sets. I pity the little children," says an agitated bade miyan.
Requesting anonymity another bade miyan adds, "On one occasion we spent the day at the sets from 12.30 pm to 8.30 pm. While, these kids are looked after very well and they get 2-3 hours of break, it's not right for them to spend an entire day at the sets."
However, one of the chhote miyan's parent has completely refuted this and says, "Even after the show turned a biweekly, our children have never shot for more than four hours. Here, the production house and the channel are taking utmost care of complying with the rules of the Child Labour Act."
Contrary to this a chhote miyan's relative had this to say, "Ever since the show has been switched to a biweekly, we have been spending nearly 10 hours on the sets. Each episode takes about three hours to shoot."
A source, who is closely associated with the show, agreed to Chhote Miyan Bade Miyan turning into a biweekly show but totally rubbished that the children were shooting for more hours. "I can assure you that these children have never shot for more than four hours. Besides, we take very good care of them."
Endemol India (production house) Country head Deepak Dhar said, 'The biweekly plan does not affect the shoot timelines as we are pre shooting in very relaxed schedules. Moreover absolute care is taken to ensure the children are not under any pressure at all."
Colors CEO Rajesh Kamath remained unavailable for comment.
As per the Child Labour Act of 1966, children below the age of 18 should work only between 8.00 am to 7.00 pm. All together, they can only work for 5 hours that includes one hour of lunch. There can be an addition of one hour. This was revealed to us by Maharashtra's Assistant Labour Commissioner Shailendra Pol in an earlier story.
