Television's new stars

Sonali Joshi/Hill Road Media

They may have barely been on the small screen but these young debutants are shining bright and fast becoming the television industry's biggest stars. We are talking about the few promising girls from new shows airing who have become household names in just three months and seem to have a bright future ahead of them.

Hina Khan: She plays the role of the very simple Akshara in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai (Star Plus). Hina is from Jammu and Kashmir and has never done any acting before appearing on Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. She is not formally trained and has admitted that her costars and director help her out before she performs a scene. Yet, she has impressed the masses with her innocence and raw talent, becoming one of TV's favourite actresses.

Asiya Quazi: Having just given her Standard 11 exams from Bhawans College, Asiya is one of the youngest actresses to win the hearts of TV audiences. She portrays the role of the powerful girl Santo in Bandini (NDTV Imagine).  With her emotive face, she holds her own in the presence of seasoned actors like Ronit Roy. Asiya has been praised tremendously not just by audiences but also by her producer Ekta Kapoor, her family and her friends.

Ratan Rajput: Before she became big on Agle Janam Mohe Bitiya Hi Kijo (Zee TV), she acted in several other shows. However, her role as the underprivileged Lali, who has to struggle to make ends meet, has been highly appreciated. Even actors such as Shilpa Shinde and Gunjan Walia have praised Ratan and the show. And she certainly deserves the rave reviews for proving that you don't have to be caked with make up and in glamorous saris for your show to be a hit. Instead, Ratan lets her work speaks for itself.

Leena Jumani: Leena acted in Gujrati films before she went for the audition for Balaji's Bandini. She shone as a ghost on another Balaji show, the horror serial Koi Aane Ko Hai (Colors). On the show, she played two very different characters; Suhasi, who was very simple and soft spoken and Savita, an abusive maid. Her performance was commendable and she surely has a bright future ahead.

Kritika Kamra: Kritika plays Aarohi on Kitani Mohobbat Hai. On the show, she's a singer who steals the hearts of her male fans. Her dreamy romantic imagine is quite convincing and she shares good chemistry with her costar Karan Kundra. Their love-hate relationship is a treat to watch and reminds us of hit pair Hiten and Gauri Tejwani from Kutumb.

Shivshakti: She had cameos in Balika Vadhu and Uttaran before she bagged her big role on Sabki Ladli Bebo (Star Plus). Having just completed her Standard 10 board exams, Shivshakti is the youngest promising TV actress onscreen right now. Her innocence is a huge attraction factor. She has great features and her effortless acting demonstrates her scope for a great future in the industry.
