India Today expert view on I like what i'm today?lean and strong: Rajeev Khandelwal He dashes down the stairs of the gym in a fitted T-shirt and jeans. He is all set to begin his workout. It's only when he starts to lift weights do you notice the muscles. There's no doubt about it: this actor is superbly fit. But that's okay. I exercise for my health and my self confidence, not for others to be gawking at my bulging muscles. A gym gives my body the right shape. Otherwise, I am more of a tennis or squash person. I can swim for hours. So, I begin with my cardio and do the treadmill or the jogger. I move on to abdominals, which are very essential. I then do weight training, which my trainer ensures I follow religiously to get heavier biceps and triceps and to strengthen my chest and shoulders. ![]() Rajeev Khandelwal I exercise religiously even when I'm working or shooting. I do eat food that tastes good, but its nutritional value is much more important. This has nothing to do with my being an actor. Even when I was 20 and not remotely connected with the acting world, I used to have a raw egg with milk every morning. I stay away from junk food and colas. ![]() I try and avoid rice. I take fish and chicken once a week, but only if I feel like. Since I have no carbs for dinner, I usually have stir-fried vegetables with some egg white or soya nuggets. I love cooking and I keep in mind the nutritional quality of what I eat. What's your favourite health drink? I like green tea. Recently, I switched to herbal tea from Ladakh. I do have tea or coffee if there is no alternative but I take them without milk and with a little brown sugar. What's your fitness mantra? I live by two mantras. The first is that you need to love yourself to make that effort to keep fit. I am not a narcissist by any measure, but I love myself enough to make the right choices to stay healthy. Secondly, I believe in being happy. If you're not happy, all the diet and exercise in the world can't make you healthy. I love everything I do, including the occasional drink I take. I don't believe in supplements. I believe in all things natural. So, I believe in loving myself and loving life |
