Family with a difference
The serial "Thodi Khushi Thode Gham" aired on Sony Entertainment Television is about conflict of ideals between two generations

TODAY'S WOMAN Deepa Parab plays a new-age girl, Sneha, who challenges age-old tradition in the serial
Fed up with female-oriented, conspiracy driven, done-to-death family sagas ruling the television scene? Here's yet another family saga, but with a difference. This is what the lead cast members of Thodi Khushi Thode Gham - a teleserial launched recently on Sony Entertainment Television, claim. In the Capital to promote the serial, the lead actors maintained that the USP of the serial was its joint family angle and the fact that it is not strictly female-oriented like most other serials on prime time. "Sneha is today's girl and believes in the ideals of today," says Deepa Parab who plays the female protagonist Sneha. "The serial revolves around the conflict of ideals between generations," she adds. For Deepa, who has appeared in serials like Choti Maa and Meet, "it's a great experience working with stalwarts of the theatre". Thodi Khushi... , directed by Vipul Shah is the story of a strictly patriarchal family. Mansukhlal Shah, an autocratic, dictatorial and traditional man, heads the family. Sneha, the youngest daughter-in-law of the family, challenges the age-old tradition. Arvind Rathore who plays Mansukhlal the patriarch is a veteran Gujarati theatre actor who has also acted in around 200 films. Speaking about the serial and his part in it he says, "This is the story of a character who has strict morals and ideals. Barring his views on women there is much I share in common with him."

The story is an autobiographical account of the family patriarch, and the characters provide a refreshing change, asserts the cast. "The story has been related from the viewpoint of the male protagonist. The little yet significant emotions that are lost in high drama soaps have been retained here," says Amit Jain who plays Pranav Shah, the youngest son.
