Episode 12: The Ties That Bind
Bonnie has been locked into a coffin by Klaus. She yells and suddenly, some woman opens the coffin.
Turns out, that was another dream Bonnie has been having. Bonnie shows Elena the coffins and Stefan arrives. Bonnie then tells them that her mother was the one who could help them open the coffin. Bonnie and Elena are shown searching for the right Abby Bennett when Damon shows up with information on the real Abby Bennett. He wants come along but Elena refuses. Bonnie wonders what happened between Damon and Elena. "We kissed, now it's weird."-Damon.
Tyler shows up at Caroline's house and he apologizes. Tyler apparently has called Caroline's father so he could prevent him from being sired the same way her father had prevented Caroline from compulsion?
Alaric asks Meredith out for dinner next time. Damon tells Alaric about Brian whom Meredith supposedly dated.
Stefan tells Klaus to leave town but Klaus just doesn't agree.
Bonnie and Elena have a short conversation about DE in which Bonnie asks if the kiss was good. And then Stefan calls and Elena tells him she and Bonnie were going to stay at the lake house that night to get away from his insanity. Turns out, Stefan knows Elena is lying because he's in her house and has found the record sheet of Abby Bennett. "Sure Elena, whatever you say."-Stefan.
Some hybrid of Klaus's shows up at Abby's house. When Elena and Bonnie, arrive they meet some guy named Jamie, who invites them in when Bonnie reveals she's Abby's daughter. Jamie is later said to be the son of Abby's late boyfriend. Abby took in Jamie upon his fathers death. That's when Abby arrives home. "I'm Bonnie. Your daughter."
Care's father tells Tyler in order for Tyler to break the sire, he had to turn, with the pain. That way, he won't feel dented to Klaus in any way at all.
Tyler wills himself to transform.
Abby reveals that Miranda, Elena's mother was her best friend. Miranda was the reason why she left town. And then she tells them that she decrypted Micheal. Abby pleads for Bonnie to listen and Elena waits outside where Stefan shows up.
Damon says sorry to Meredith about Brian and also how she signed his death certificate. Meredith wonders why he cares. "because ric likes you and if you're a psychopath, it'll suck for him".And then Damon is injected with vervain.
Meredith collects Damon's blood.
Tyler tells Caroline to go. Care's father starts to hit Tyler to get him angry. Eventually, he does.
Bonnie asks Abby why she didn't come home. "I had no magic, I was in a new city and I learned how to be a different person."
Bonnie reveals Grams died during a spell. "she raised you right. I'm sure she would've very proud of you."
Jamie is compelled to leave when he appears after Stefan kicks a chair. But Jamie returns with some sort of gun and Stefan tells Elena Jamie has been compelled. Bonnie gets up to investigate and Abby takes some powder and puts it on Bonnie's mouth.
Damon tells Alaric he's good for now [regarding Meredith].
Elena gets tied up and she sees Abby and Jamie taking Bonnie away somewhere.
Tyler attacks Caroline's father.
Abby tells Bonnie that she needs to tell her where the coffins are otherwise the hybrid has compelled Bonnie to kill herself. Her powers have also been diluted though the herbs [powder] that was used on her. Abby texts Bonnie saying "warn your friends" as she talks.
Jamie reveals he doesn't know why he's doing what he is, but if Abby doesn't find the coffins, Jamie is to shoot himself. And he was also told not to hurt Elena and that's when she tells him that he was hurting her cuz the ropes are apparently really tight. As Jamie goes to loosen the ropes, Elena grabs the gun and smacks him with it, somehow pulling free.
Elena takes the pieces of wood chips out of Stefan.
Klaus arrives at the old witch house where Damon is. Since the old witches hate him, so he gets harmed [the whole feeling pain thing]. Klaus then warns them that his hybrid friend is preparing to kill the entire Bennett line so they must show him the coffins which they do. Damon then reveals that he took the fourth coffin. "..but something tells him you want that coffin a lot more."-Damon.
Stefan tells Elena that she's stronger, tougher. She's changed. Then Elena tells Stefan that her and Damon kissed Becuz she feels guilty he doesn't know. Stefan's face is unreadable at that moment but he suddenly gets up and walks away.
Meredith shows Alaric Caroline's father. She injects Damon's blood into Care's father. Meredith's secret? She hates it when people die so she "cheats".
Stefan regrets kidnapping Elena admitting the bridge was taking it too far but she shouldn't have lied to him. "without me getting in the way"-Stefan. And then he tells her she's better than both Stefan and Damon, and then driving away.
Abby tells Bonnie that Jamie is her family. Bonnie then tells Abby she can't help her because she doesn't have her power and because she didn't trust her. That's when Abby tells her if Bonnie needed her, she was willing to get her magic back.
Tyler is told that turning needs to be painless because until then, he's sired. Until that happens, Tyler can't go near Caroline.
Alaric reveals to Meredith he's a vampire hunter and he also tells her about the ring that keeps him alive and they kiss. Elena walks in on them kissing and Mere returns. Alaric apologizes because it wasn't his house and Elena tells him the minute he slept on the couch, it was his house and he was allowed to move on.
Damon tells Stefan about the locked coffin still being with them but when Damon asks if Elena was okay, Stefan gets angry and punches him.
Damon then shows Stefan the dagger needed to kill an original.
Klaus tells his hybrid he has some unfinished business to deal with still and that's when Elijah suddenly rips the hybrids heart out. Turns out, Damon had taken the dagger out of Elijah.
