Something that exists in all serials, but is overlooked...

Now, this 'Something' that I am talking about is a gender based behavioural pattern that I have witnessed in every serial over the years. A man in the eyes of society is deemed as the most dominant and powerful gender group where as woman are seen as the most vulnerable of the two genders. Although indian serials follow this gender stereotype, one very significant gender personality trait I have seen in the men and women in these shows is overlooked. The men in the serials, although shown as the most dominating and influential, they are also portrayed as the most emotionally dependant on the women in their lives, and never seem to function without those women.

On the other hand, despite women being shown as the subordinates of men and are seen as weak and vulnerable, they are also seen as being the more resilient, intelligent and emotionally independent than men. The women are not seen chugging down alcohol, screaming their problems at others, and breaking down into uncontrollable tears in front of other women and running for comfort from other people whenever their husband leaves them for some unexplainable reason or if their husband is avoiding or upset with them. Women don't just go into a downwards spiral of depression if their partner is separated from them due to misunderstandings created by the antagonists, the women deal with it, fight back or actually try and move forward in life, unlike the men who can't seem to emotionally handle themselves unless they share their pain with another close female figure apart from their wife.

You guys must be wondering why all of a sudden I created this seemingly random and long-winded post, but this actually came to my mind when about two weeks ago I watched yeh vaada raha and saw the main guy karthik in a drunken state in his own party humiliate his wife and break down emotionally in front of everyone and guests just because his wife, survi arrived late to his birthday bash as he thought she forgot it was his b-day and she had been avoiding him since they married.

Women don't do this, in fact if a woman in an indian serial did this she would be humiliated and given names as shameless and a bad wife for telling people about her problems in her married life to people, whereas when karthik did this everyone felt sorry for him and the guests started saying derogatory things about survi, saying she is a bad wife and karthik made a mistake of marrying a poor girl who lived in a chawl and that is why he is unhappy in his marriage. What amazing indian serial logic lol.

Ok I am done with my rant now 😆

Interesting observation Sammy.
I don't watch that serial so can't comment on it but it's true - majority of the series shows the dependency and independent scenario and I guess it has to do with the norms of society . Not just in shows but in reality too- men though deemed as powerful nd dominant are most of the time emotionally weak ... where women wear their heart on their sleeves at least majority . So what seems like that women are emotionally week is not their weakness because they show it and some how cope up with it where as men don't show it and thus depend on their better half to pull them thru.

Ugh I don't know If I made sense now

I know that. but I was using that as a recent example for this case as it is the best example I could give for this scenario.
