I like Sanskaar's character and that is why I ship SwaSan. I do not like how Laksh's character is shaping up - so I do not like him. Yes, Varun is a favourite but I guess its again more to do with how he comes across in interviews to me. Namish is quite good looking at times but comparing actors on the basis of looks is wrong. Also, judging the story line on the basis of actor's look is wrong.
I dont think most people ship SwaSan because Varun is more handsome. They ship SwaSan more because Sanskaar's character touches everyone's heart. He is the perfect husband material.
Laksh may have been nice in the beginning and people may have reason to ship him - but if someone ships SwaLak because Namish looks good - then their immaturity is in question. If they ship Laksh because they think Laksh is justified as a character - then it still is acceptable.
Both Varun and Namish are good looking in their own ways - it is just a matter of choice. I find Varun and Tejaswi more good looking than Namish and Helly - but that does not mean I will ship Sanskaar and Ragini. I will always believe in Swara and Sanskaar because they are the characters I fell in love with. Looks of an actor is to each its own - it has rarely got much to do with the storyline or a fan base liking them - unless ofcourse fan base is immature and do not realise the difference between actor and the character.

A character should not be merely liked nor "shipped" for looks. There are so many other factors that need to be taken into consideration. The interactions with other characters, the type of respect, authority, power, personality that the individual character holds are also vital.
I agree that good looks may attract some people to watch a certain show or like someone/want to know them. That is what attraction is after all. However, this attraction could just as easily dissolve once the personality, behaviors, manners etc. come to surface.
What matters the most in stories is how the characters are written and portrayed. Not the way they look. You could have one of the most handsomest man on Earth play the role of Raavan. Does that mean everyone will start shipping Raavan & Sita together? No. There is a reason why he is condemned and Ram is worshiped. It is for their actions that they are given their respective dislike and respect.
Now, if you want me to speak of SwaSan specifically I'll be truthful. What attracted to me to the show was Varun's boyish charms. He has a certain softness about him that gives off a very serene and calming effect. It was once I had started watching the show that I began to appreciate the characters for who they are rather than for how they look.
On screen they all have their grey shades but off screen they are absolutely amazing human beings that makes me appreciate everything they do for this show even more. Tejaswi and Varun's bonding is my all time favorite off screen and it makes me appreciate how they bring their characters across so much more. It is the same with Namish and Helly but I have a soft spot for Varun/Tejaswi just a little more.
TL;DR - Looks aren't everything. It's the character/story that matters.
