How far away from the silliness and drenching morbidity that surrounded his aimless drifter's life, he has come! The aged driver Suleiman thought to himself. Sometimes awe and sometimes disbelief but always a sense of both joy and relief fill this man when he sees his employer. Sense of relief as, from a point when he was going to find another job ten years ago distressed at the callous and incorrigible ways of the septuagenarian lady and her clan he decided to stay. He now is employed by the most wonderful man. If ever a tale of the watershed turnaround of a wastrel into an achiever ever be told this should beat them all. The innate wisdom in that boy led him to de-shackle himself from the probing, interfering and money hungry business house driven by a motley clamoring clan into an independent, wise and prudent entrepreneur par excellence. Suleiman shook his head in disbelief at the miracle. He glanced at the reflection in the rear view mirror. Suleiman was not a curious man by nature but it still made him wonder at times what could be the catalyst that brought forth this wonderful butterfly from what otherwise could be an eternally doomed to be only a caterpillar. He knows that the ladies of the haveli shuffle between ashram and the Lily House. The other two siblings and their spouses continue with their wasted ways while their assorted kids apparently unleash havoc on a daily basis. It could not be any worse than it was ever before; for it was nothing short of maniacal havoc obsession that was practiced by the elder of the house in her hey-days! His boss's ex-wife, is presently a house wife married to a bank official and now raises her 2 daughters. I bumped into her at the market last Sunday in a vigorous discussion with the vendor about onion prices. Given a chance she would have taken it upon herself to be unduly concerned and started her overtly friendly solicitations and general bonhomie but I had guests coming over for lunch and had some shopping to finish. She is a spitting image of her mother, a very sweet lady. No doubt her husband is as prudent a man as her father. Both sisters seem to be married into reasonable comfort with nothing other than a saas and serial to disturb them. Good that the lady's father showed presence of mind and intervened. Otherwise, life for everyone was a miserable merry-go-round of depression followed by vile hopelessness at the lily house.
Suleiman alerted himself and turned away his gaze as they neared the University. Yuva seems to have left all that far behind and in his present world there is little room for SBS! Now again!? What's SBS?
