Sweetest Day history traces back to around 1922 in Cleveland, Ohio where Herbert Birch Kingston who was a local candy company employee sought to bring cheer and some happiness to the lives of those who were often forgotten or ignored. Soon accompanied by his friends he started distributing candies and small gifts to children living in orphanages, the downtrodden, those stricken with illness or disabilities to express love and show gratitude towards them. This day has evolved into a romantic sweetest day where lovers exchange tokens of affection and admiration for each other.
Sweetest Day has become an occasion akin to Valentine's day where couples enjoy each other's company and the idea being to make the wife or lover feel special and pamper her with all the sweet and beautiful things in life. On sweetest Day you can enjoy with your sweetheart but don't let others feel out of place. Let the special ones know how he/ she has enriched your life by sending a sweetest day ecard, sweetest day chocolates, a bouquet of flowers which will give them sheer immense joy and satisfaction. Although Sweetest Day is not so popular yet it is widely celebrated in United States. Sweetest Day is now fast gaining popularity globally. Sweetest Day is a day to spread smile and happiness around. October 14th is celebrated as World Standards Day
World Standards Day is celebrated internationally each year on October 14th. The day honours the efforts of the thousands of experts who develop voluntary standards within standards development organizations such as the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), International Organization for Standardization (ISO), and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU). The aim of World Standards Day is to raise awareness among regulators, industry and consumers as to the importance of standardization to the global economy.
October 14 was specifically chosen to mark the date, in 1946, when delegates from 25 countries first gathered in London and decided to create an international organization focused on facilitating standardization. Even though ISO was formed one year later, it wasn't until 1970 that the first World Standards Day was celebrated. Each year, ISO determines a theme based on a current aspect of standardization.
Around the globe, various activities are chosen by national bodies to commemorate the date. The Standards Council of Canada (SCC), Canada's national accreditation body, celebrates World Standards Day together with the international community. The SCC publishes its annual issue of CONSENSUS magazine on World Standards Day, as well as hosts events or plans other initiatives on this date.
