I feel like not only the characters but the actors too aren't big fans of much versatility in their sarees, like look at DD or other fashionistas off screen saree looks, they are pretty but again the same chiffon or frills. They don't seem to like anything else.

The production houses ( tv or movies) usually give their actresses thin chiffon sarees to highlight their hour glass figure. It just takes the shape of ur body n flows with it. It will look good on screen. Since these actresses r mostly models they know how to carry it off. The cottons r usually given to the masi or mother character becos there is a notion that it is of aunty types. But cottons will also give a regal look if worn perfectly. Kancheevaram silk is royal. It's heavy n is sometimes difficult to manage. Among the actresses only Vidhya Balan can carry it off in style.
I liked Nandini 's silk cotton sarees from the initial episodes more than her recent sarees. I don't like the frilly ones.

I just don't like frill in clothes for some reason. It looks bulky, like curtain or table cloth. That's why I am not really a fan of frill in sarees. Jennifer's saree color was cool along with blouse and frill seemed less but still frill in clother just puts me off.
