My POV why SGP is going off-air?

I am a silent reader of this forum... I know past 4-5 days after the confirmation of SGP going off-air there have been a lot of posts from other silent readers. So I hope you guys won't mind reading another one.

The success of a serial is directly proportional to the brilliance of the writing team. I guess our writers have never seen any masterpiece TV series of english countries. It's not that the writers there are out of the world, its just that they are well prepared before hand. Before starting the series, the writers give the ultimatum that we have this much of story, which will be enough for running it to lets say 5 seasons. And if they want to extend after that, the preparation starts well before. And if suppose, the audience are not liking the storyline, the whole writing team is replaced by another in order to save it from axing. For the sake general information, the writing team of a TV series there, consists of 20-25 people who are working day-night rather than the writing team team of Indian Serials which consists of hardly 5-8 people.

SGP was adapted from OBS. The writers of OBS( and also of SGP) had a brilliant script because of which OBS ran successfully👏. Seeing the success of OBS, they decided to make a hindi version of it. And it worked. They included heavy casting in their show and the actors were spot on. Jay, Ragini, Supriya Ji and others did the hell of a job and can be said that they did better than OBS.

Seeing the success, the production house decided to extend the storyline. But the fact is that there was never a storyline prepared for the extension. OBS track was till the amnesia of Ishaan and SGP became dull immediately after that. The tracks became meaningless. Its because the writers were not well prepared with the tracks. They were just cashing in on the popularity of SGP's cast. Like other serials of Indian Television, the makers thought that the storyline will be accepted seeing the popularity of stars. But it never happened. SGP's ratings started falling down and it never climbed up.

Some of the meaningless tracks in my view are:

- Sushaan goin to Mumbai ( they extended it to 5-6 months showing again the triangle of Ishaan-Suhana-Sonali)

- Dragging of Sanjana- Deepak track ( that was pathetic)

- Suhana in Tv Serial

The only track which had some meaning was the disclosing of Bade Papa's intentions. SGP had a gr8 cast. A good storyline would saved it. SGP is goin off air because SP doesn't need a show which is constantly dipping ( that too when IPL is coming up) plus I guess the writers also didn't have much to show.

Even after so much of bashing, I would like to say SGP would remain the best drama show of Indian Television with the unique concept "Slice of Life" ( as it is called). The actors had tremendous impact on the audience and every single of them portrayed positivity in their respective manner.

In the end, I would prefer to say " I will miss SGP" rather than saying " Yeh SGP kab band hoga". I don't want a season 2 of it neither I want any other show to be made on this concept. For the sake of my obsession with SGP and Suhana-Ishaan, I want only and only one SGP to be there sitting on the top of classics.

I do agree that SGP started dipping in the TRP list..bt i would still say it was better than other shows on top of the list...

yes SGP had some bad tracks...especially because of the pressure to show separate Sushaan tracks...whenever a separate track for Sushaan was shown..TRP started dipping..

Suhana in serial is one track which i havent had the chance to follow from its start so i cannot give an overall picture..

but SGP has always come back strongly after a bad track...

Cvs should just take few risks and show some major changes and quicken things up...BP track is one of SGP's best tracks and it still has scope to open up...SGP i guess is one show which was never given time to adapt to conditions...

when BT track was not taken nicely...they immediately cured Suhana...when IShaan amnesia track gained TRPs even though we did not like...it was dragged beyond needed...

SGP can end gracefully now...but i dnt think it deserves to end like this(with short notice)

really nice post @fullhouse... You really summed up what we all think.. Maybe the comparison from English TV series was not needed but still there are some good points in it.

I agree with you and I've been saying this from the start, it's high time Indian tv adopts the season-series format rather than this never ending episodic daily soap format. The production teams, creatives and writers involved can do million times better than the crap that they spew out if they actually had the time to backtrack and see what they are actually showing, and the actors would not be as disinterested as some of them seem to be.

SGP is only a victim of this TRP race in the daily show format along with countless other shows, every single Indian show starts out with a great promise and you think "wow finally something good" but literally after a month you're saying "ok seriously there is no logic in this", part of the reason is that they have gotten their TRPs and rely on fans to keep on watching and that they are demanded by the channel to fulfill episode banks hence end up working overtime. I have seen many actors completely get exhausted and sleep deprived due to their long working hours and on top of that award performances and other things they have to do

I completely agree with Sweta, no matter how bad SGP got it still was better than the shit that rules the TRP charts, and the fact that those kinds of shows are number one, well you can't really blame the channels entirely because the audiences are too stood to accept progressive storylines and characters🤢.

Excellent post , agree to it completely and after the abrupt finsih of BT track Sgp was on roller coaster ride ... There was lot of potential but was not availed , there was some good tracks in OBS which was not done here and we missed out on some good stuff . But even with its flaws SGP,s writing standard was much higher then your normal daily dose of saas Bahu serials and the actors gave there heart and souls to portray the character closest to reality .
I seriously wish that Indian television start doing short serials ,story and logic based , there are so many illogical crap on star plus can they not spare time and money to have short serials of 20/30 episodes ???

Sad SGP is going off air. It is very different and one of the best shows Inidan televsion has. But it is better to end than it moves to an afternoon slot and spoil the show.
It is better than most of the other shows in Star Plus now. Some shows does not even have a story. I don't know why people like the kitchen politics. Some of the tracks of these shows are pathetic.
All the good shows of Star Plus are under scanner after SGP. Next is Maryada and Pratigya is under scanner, as per telly chakkar article.
@ venture- Yes Its is better to ahve short serials like Pakistan serials. Or else they could fix the number of episodes, then the content will be creative and the standard will be high. In some of the shows after more 1 year no progress with Husband Wife relationship and it is ridiculous.
