watched our Precious show... (do you read McCall-Smith's No.1 Ladies' series?)

Like you said Kumud is 100% into her jasoosi and it's really irksome. 😒

And I dont like this "Afghan hound" hairstyle of Kumud's... I do wish they do Something about it!

End Of.

No haven't read,

So many books, so little time...

It's a TV series also.

What I really don't understand is that if the writers can come up with small mercies among a sea of dead type scenes (Saras-Mai conversation), why can't they do the same throughout? It's not like they're incapable of coming up with something sensible?
And I notice, in all this hodgepodge, it's always Kumud's character that gets the ultimate whiplash in terms of 'tinkering' with the character. Where is that Kumud who begged and implored her badimaa to do something to allay his pain when S had broken down in front of everyone while playing the dog and bone game?

I am seriously stumped! Stopping myself from ranting further😳

I feel it's lazy writing, so the cvs stick to the safe formula of the bahu saves the parivar. And the bahu will do everything for the parivar, and she will be the only one doing so, everyone else a mere prop.

Saw the epi.
Now Danny is the dumbest. He doesnt want property but doesnt want to look at saras. Wah.

Feel bad for Kumud's character. She is doing the right thing but without being even a little practical. Without trying to explain Saras. And without trying to comfort him.

Well, he atleast eats her food. Things are not that bad actually. Precap suggests so.

And in precap, poor Saras. He is miserable already. That expression says a thousand words. Kumud ko miss karte shave nahin karega aur devdaas ban jaayega kya😒

Mantra 1 - Daily soap needs daily drama.

Mantra 2 - Characters take turns to get butchered. Kumud n Kusum had their turn. Now its Danny's turn to be on the butcher's block. Saras is also not acting smart. But they saved him by piling misery on him.

Mantra 3 -

TV Bahus have to be the only smart and mentally strong ones. Who can withstand pinpricks of life and see the big picture. And if that means giving 'small' troubles(according to them) to husband like leaving him alone and lying to him, so be it. And husband is left pining for the wife.

Saraswati should not be alive. That will be very meaningless twist and will ruin the story. Plsss.

This was cute, but I wish Kumud and Saras together would share some moments, instead of her doing all the chasing

And that planting the phone in Guman's room to eavesdrop on their conversation is just so wrong.

I don't think Saraswati is alive, maybe she was, and tried to come back with baby kabir, but was killed off by Guman !

For some reason, the TV shows have only 3 categories of characters, the good, the bad and the dumb

The good has to be the extremely self sacrificing bahu, who will always be sach ke saath, and will often be misunderstood. She will suffer the misfortunes of others and will get blamed for all that goes wrong.

The bad - anything goes, lying, cheating, conniving, stealing, blackmailing, murdering, the bad guy have on their payroll an army of hoodlums and crooks, have no qualms about doing anything be it small petty tricks to huge crimes

And their target is the heroine always, and often this hatred is contrived

And in between are the parivar ke log - who have no capacity to think or rationalize, who accept any crap from all the others but the heroine has to uphold all the sanskars and maryadas and will be ready to punish her severely, while condoning anything and everything from everyone else.

This template exits in every single show in TV, be it a love story or a family drama.

Rather than create characters and situations that are thought provoking and conflicting and create emotional dilemmas that challenge our thoughts and force us to examine our mindsets and prejudices,
We are handed on a platter, caricatures that are black and white.

How wonderful would have been a real situation of a Saras Danny kabir, where Danny is actually jealous of the new bro kabir, who has Saras's sympathy for all that he had gone through, and we have a real conflict between the brothers where all 3 are right, all are trying to adjust to the dynamics of new relationships

Instead we have Saras always good, kabir always bad, and a mindless Danny who will believe blindly one or other. Today he will trust kabir and blame Saras, when he learns that kabir is bad, he will dump all and blindly trust Saras !

How unrealistic this whole scenario is ! So we have families which talk of Sanskar and paramapara and maryada and sach jhooth

But neglect to follow simple facts like communication, honesty trust respect etc which are actually what are needed to keep families together !

I could only press the like button. You said it so well.

We would love some 'real' situations that lead to different POVs because of different perspectives. Actually they generate more drama and daily soaps need it. Every other day we can get an argument. And we are like the phrase Prof. Amartya Sen coined - 'The argumentative Indian'. Yahan forum bhi bhar jaati.

Instead we have black, white and no grey. And pun is intended. No grey cells. Like for example, Saras is just quiet and not trying to see why this went wrong. Danny had 'verbal diarrhea' that day and then shut up and even after Saras said it all, is still sulking. Its now a non-issue. And kumud is trying to bring brothers together or doing an RCA ie. Root Cause Analysis that is taking her to 'Nalanda Sangeet Bhandar'.

All this sounds so familiar to me. As this is what happened in BALH. And for me, that is the only other show I 'used' to watch.

And your last paragraph was so good. Communication, respect and honesty. Those are the key. The soaps really need to step up.

But in all this, what I liked was they are showing human side of Saras. who is sulking, angry at himself n Danny. Not very mahan.

really? Am so not into TV... that I wouldn't know.

My staple diet these days believe it or not - is SC, JA and MB (which I decided is aimed at tweenies age group, so watch it with my daughter who is one of those that does not know the story, so is correct target market for all those soap-operatic touches that SP chooses to garnish the show with...😳)

Btw, this is what an Afghan hound looks like...
