Shittake! Playing with morals and culture in the name of a classic!

Don't worry, I won't make a serious post about how this classic is being chopped now. No, SLB abandoned ship, so that chapter is over. But...I have been watching for a few weeks again (since the beginning to Kumud's marriage) and I have had thoughts that must be shared.

1. Kusum is damn selfish! Forget wanting what has been meant for sister dearest, she wants the guy despite his wanting her! Many a girl has betrayed a sister but at least the guy was willing! 😡 Leave him alone! He's not a piece of meat.

2. Why would she be happy as soon as Kumud says she will give Saras to her? How selfish and stupid? She even knows he loves her sister enough to join her marital home! 😆😆

3. Not to mention, Saras slept with your sister! YUCK!? 🤣 Why would the CVs even show that? In the books the characters did not consumate, so it was okay to suggest Kusum then. Otherwise, few older sisters would put their little sister with a man they slept with. Come on now! Kusum, you want a repeat of what happened to Princess Diana? Pretty sure her sister was only seeing Prince Charles by the way.

4. Forget all the moral and cultural issues with the whole sister scenario, where are they getting these ignorant saas-to-bes? I really wish Indian drama had enough courage to do what Mahima did in Lajja. Just because they have the son does not mean they can talk like that to the girl's side. KICK THEM OUT. Kick their as🤬. How many sexually suggestive, sick accusations could that woman put on Kusum? Ya, we get it, you think she's not a virgin. Your son better have angel wings! I thought Kumud was raised to have a backbone, but what did she do other than beg with her embarrassment of a father?

5. Also, in the most unlikely of scenarios, two Harvardians 🤔 (and millionaires with hearts of gold) are dying for his daughters who neither have enough education or any other special qualities to match (of course beauty reins, typical) but what does father do? Find two village guys (without any background check) in a rush to marry off his daughters to because he's concerned about his reputation as soon as the daughter's marriage with (or because of) any Vyas boy is in jeopardy. What reputation? You have no reputation, no consequence. You are an idiot father treating your daughters like pawns!

6. Amazingly, the new writers not only objectify the girls who need their reputation report card protected by Maiy's son Saras, they also objectify the men! How? Kumud remembers once Kusum is left groom-less that she has a set of balls to spare (Saras). 😆 She has Pramad for better or worse, so she spares Saras for Kusum! What? He's a human being you know? What does Saras do? He donates his brother to marry Kusum ("make her happy") even though Kusum doesn't love him, thereby creating a heartbreaking trial for Danny. Yes, it's Danny that's the groom. See on Monday.

7. End of the day, it is a drama. Not to be made big issues of. But golly, how many things are they going to mess up for TRPs. For a heritage family like Kumud's, this is low behavior. First Kalika, then Kusum. All this just so that caricature characters like saas' can make degrading comments against women. It is not entertainment, it is degradation. If the female viewers are lapping this up, they are just falling into the women being their own worst enemies track. Yes, it's just a soap, but it affects a mindset long-term.

8. Kumud started off as a game-changing woman, why has this character been compromised to this extent? She's going around begging and complying with every injustice! Worse, she's becoming a tormetor in the name of sisterly sacrifice - for Saras and Kusum for dooming them in a loveless marriage. This kind of drama is better suited to bad 70s and 80s Bollywood.

9. Disclaimer: Nothing against the actors. They are just doing their jobs and they are very good at it. That is why I am so worked up as a viewer.

10. Who is more idiotic as a character? The mother who knows of the consumation who is thrilled Kumud is donating Saras or the Vidyachatur with no Vidya?

Mary.

Anyways, these were my views. Please share your thoughts on this whole thing. I am talking about the characters in the show and how they are behaving. We all know it's just a drama, so any comment on that is beside the point.

Excellent post Mary.
I'd blame the Mother cos she knows what extent Samud's relation wen to. She should have told Kusum about it. Anyways not watching the serial became too disgusting to even watch with Pramad staying in the same house. I mean what kind of a father does that? Nuff said about this crap show.
