One backward step for Kumud and one giant backward leap for Indian women

Today Kumud Sundari stated all the reasons why a woman should not stay in an abusive relationship to vindicate why she should continue to stay with Pramad and remain silent about the abuse dished out to her. She wore her reasons as a badge of honor.
This kind of reasoning based on societal image and false family self-respect are the root causes for holding woman in abusive relationships be it because of dowry or because the husband is a wastrel like Pramad.
The CVs are following a book written about 19th century customs while peddling a 21st century setting for the story.
Women living under abusive conditions who are watching this show will surely think that they are being martyrs for the sake of family name and izzat when truth be told which self-respecting family would want their daughter to stay married under these circumstances?
Emancipation of women in India is a grassroots movement that is constantly set-back by shows promoting arguments similar to what Kumud Sundari delivered today.
For Kumud it was one small backward step however considering that SC is one of the top shows - it is one giant leap backward for Indian women!!

Agreed. Kumud needs to leave him eventually. I hate Pramad's mom too. How can she not know about her son's wayward nature and getting him married this way. It is clear case of cheating as well.

19th Century women are different in way of thinking
21st century women are more matured and are more courageous and brave hearted.
Since SLB is enacting the 19th century novel story, it will be a hard task for us 21st century women to adjust to it.

The Bedni Tribes, Balika Vadhus, of India, are not aware of the consequences of being an abuse relationship. They have the same perspective of the 19th century women- there is no where out of the relationship, hence they have to bare it as that is life for them.

We civilised women on the other hand, have full knowledge of a man's ego, that is why we have full freedom of speech to speak out against violence.

Unfortunately, the 19th century women and the balika vadhus and bednis don't have these privileges.

RE: Bold in your statement above - You are incorrect.
SLB is enacting the novel BUT has adapted it to the 21st century. SLB has NOT depicted the story to take place in 19th century.
This is why we saw Kumud and Saras communicate via SKYPE and use MOBILE phones!

RE: RE: BOLD😆
My conclusion is not based on the technological or culture/traditions depicted. It was solely based on the way of thinking of the characters.
Except Saras, all the others are pretty old fashion when nayi soch is concerned😉 😆

Re: Underlined above. Again, I consider the statement incorrect. If you recall in the early stages of the show they showed Kumud as educated; a graduate who had taken up a teacher's job. They showed her mother, father & aunt supporting her and encouraging her to be independent and forward thinking.
If the characters were old fashioned in thinking they would have stopped Kumud's education upon reaching high school and asked her to stay at home!

RE: RE BOLD again

U don't give up do u😆 Well u got a point there😳 I forgot about that😊
But any ways all I am trying to say is Kumud trying to save her marriage and change Pramad, in the process just putting her self at stake.

Re: Bold - Nah I do not give up until I truly understand what it is I am overlooking in your communication 😆
Now I got it! Yes Kumud's thinking of reforming Pramad is definitely purani soch!!
