I think SLB knows very well if he wants to keep his audience engaged and for his show to last, they will need to have a happy ending for Saras and Kumud. Unlike the novel and the movie, serials have to depict more of a happy ending one way or another. Obviously the protagonists will go through hell before reaching there :-)
