Popular actors of daily soaps are finding it diff to do multiple shows thanks to channel propreitorship
Lasy week, TV actor Giaa manek aka Gopi bahu was expelled overnight from the show NS aired on SP. the reason apparently was her being ambitious and taking on another show JDJ of a rival channel, Colors leading to time mismanagement. SP had even sent a statement saying "SNS will see a new face essaying the role of Gopi bahu", the lead protagonist of the show; which was played by Giaa since its very launch. The association with Giaa has however been discontinued with immediate effect, due to unprofessional conduct and breach of contract from the actors side.
The move has created unrest among the actors. Hina Khan, who is playing the main lead in YRKKH was also approached for 2 reality shows but couldnt do them because of the channel dint permit her. She said "the channels should understand that this the time, where we can earn money. Though, there is a clause of exclusivity in our contracts, I think if we ask for permission, we should be allowed and if not, then they should provide us with similar platform (reality show)" not just reality shows, even a fictinal soap is a strict no-no. sarwar Ahuja who was doing Punarvivah was sacked unceremoniously when he decided to take Life Ok's Shapath.
Says a Zee spokeperson "if, sarwar had info'd us that he is doing tyhe show, it wouldnt have been a problem but he went behingd our backs" Its rumuored that Bharati SIngh, part of Sony's Comedy Cirus doing JDJ hasnt gone down well with Sony. Actors, however feel that as long as the competitive show isnt aired in the same slot, there shouldnt be any problem.
Yet, there are instances of lead daily soap actors doing 2shows at a time like Gurmeeet Choudhary of Punarvivah is currently shaking a leg in JDJ. Says Sulesh Motwani, fictional head, Zee "Our broad depends on the professionalism and commitment displayed by our5 actors. Its taken up on a case-to-case basis"
even earlier, Pavitra Rishta Sushant Singh rajput an dAnkita Lokhande had participated in the reality show and so did Ragini Khanna and Jay Soni of SGP in diff shows. The reason channels are wary of their artistes doing relaity showsis that it hampers the image of the character he/she is playing in the serial, which why an early ouster of Gurmeet is expected, especially as he hasnt proved to be a good dancer so far!!!
