Demise of Saath Nibhana Saathiya

Guys, I feel Saathiya has been slowly dying for the last few months and now, it's end is around the corner for me. Here are my reasons for feeling this way:

1. Replacement of the main female lead - I have been through this scenario twice before and both times when the main female lead was replaced, the shows were rejected and finished within a few months. There was one show I had watched for more than a year. The new actress was great, but I had been through the character's trials and turbulations with the previous actress who left just as happiness was about to enter her life just like Gopi. We felt cheated because it seemed the new actress stole her happiness without suffering any hardships. We could never accept her in that role and resented her. Similarly, I would feel Debolina usurped Gopi and Giaa. I won't even mention the chemistry shared by Giaa and all other actors on the show because I haven't seen Debolina with them yet.
2. Pregnancy Track - The CV's are introducing the pregnancy track in a rush. They probably are doing it to accommodate the new actress who looks older and may not suit the young shy romance that should have followed the Anita track. They are making a big mistake here. Even if Giaa was present, they should have shown Gohem as open love birds first before foisting a pregnancy on them. With the new actress, they should have shown Gohem with romantic scenes to get the actors and the viewers comfortable with their on screen relationship. They are not even proper lovers yet and a pregnancy seems dirty at this point. When new Gopi is shown pregnant, it will feel as if Ahemji cheated on Gopi and brought another Anita as his pregnant wife. It will never be accepted by the audience. I am reminded of that rumor on IPKKND forum about Ahemji accepting Anita and Gopi committing suicide. I will feel as if Gopi died and another Anita entered. Who knows there may be some truth to rumors that Ahemji will enter IPKKND after Saathiya ends.
3. Future Tracks - The other show that I mentioned in which the female lead was replaced went down the hill soon after they introduced bizarre tracks to boost TRP's and ended within a few months. The main female lead's role was cut down since the audience didn't accept her and the second lead's role was made bigger. In SNS, we may see Rashi becoming the main lead. I am sorry even though Rashi is good, I watch the show for Gopi. If Gopi's role is cut to the minimal, there is no Saathiya left.
4. Recent tracks - Ever since they brought Rashi's KK's back after Gopi's accident, SNS has been approaching its end. That was the first nail in the coffin of Saathiya. Next were the pseudo SD with Ahemji's amnesia and the rushed ending of Batwara track followed by the careless destruction of the characters of dumbstruck Ahemji and Kokilaji with her yougyata challenge. The final nail in the coffin is the pregnancy track for the new Gopi. The CV's messed up big time for not exploring other relationships in SNS and not giving other wonderful actors a chance to shine.
5. Star Plus and Rashmi Sharma vs Giaa Manek - I feel all of them gave up on SNS after Gopi's accident track. SNS got the highest TRP's of 7 and that's the measurement it was measured against ever since. When the TRP's went slightly lower, they lost faith in the show. I remember us calling SNS Starplus's step child as they didn't promote the show at all as if they were waiting for it to fall.
These shows have a life time of around 4 years and SNS is already 2 years old. A new Star Plus show would have much more potential of high trp's because of its newness. Rashmi Sharma is developing another show, so her attention is focused on that. She is notorious for starting shows on a high note and messing them up soon after to end them.
I feel Giaa Manek was made a scape goat in the channel's war with another channel, the channel losing interest in their own show, and Rashmi Sharma not fighitng for her. Giaa had mentioned when the news of her entry in JDJ first came out that she had cleared it with Rashmi Sharma who had cleared it with the channel. In this game of politics, Giaa was axed.
Giaa also chose to stay with JDJ instead of hanging on a show she knew was going to end soon. JDJ will expose her to a wider audience and she may land another show which may be difficult to achieve after an axed serial no matter how successful it was in the past.
Star Plus, Rashmi Sharma, and Giaa Manek failed to work together to save the show. In all this, the biggest losers are viewers and the crew members.
My position - I watched the show for Gopi vahu with whom I felt a special connection. With Debolina, Gopi's character is going to change to fit the new actress. No matter how much I try, the charm is already gone because of he new face of Gopi. I could not enjoy today's episode knowing what was coming next. I will still come to the forum, read written updates pretending Gopi is still being played by Giaa, and even watch some epis to see how Debolina is doing. However, both Gopi and the show will die for me the day new Gopi comes.
I regret ever coming back to watch Indian serials and feeling so emotionally attached to Gopi and Saathiya. I will probably go back to American shows that are stress free and provide true entertainment without the dirty politics of Indian channels. "Chopped" anyone? "So you think you can dance" anyone? "The Mentalist" anyone?

Aris you have set everything down so wonderfully.

Yes I agree, it is the end of SNS... but I want us all to go down with it. Let us not abandon it like rats deserting a sinking ship. That would be the cowards way out.

Nope let us go down like the band on the Titanic. Making music right till the end!

Shaun, thanks for your comments. I am a grown woman. I could never imagine myself crying over a fictional show. I was so disturbed all day that people commented on what had happened to me. I should have joined a book club instead.
I agree lets not abandon it. I will probably watch a few episodes, but it won't be the same any more. I think I will miss all my friends on the forum even more. SNS joined us all together and with the show, that will end too.

Hollywood and TV entertainment industry in the US has had its share of turmoil too. A few years ago, many TV shows came to a stand-still because of the strike of screen writers and editors. Remember when Conan was booted from NBC and hundreds of employees lost their jobs in the process. Hunter Tylo, who played Taylor, on the daytime soap opera, "Bold & Beautiful" was terminated from her role for falling pregnant. She successfully sued the show; and was back on it. Dirty politics run in every job industry...the entertainment one is in the forefront because of its overt visibility. Indian serials are not the only ones.

We have a voice that can boomerang from whispers of discontentment to louder words of expression. Express your views constructively to TPTB, so that they know the power of their viewers.

Stay strong, my SNS friend. It's still worth watching 'coz of Jigar (love the guy...wish his role is given greater focus) and Koki (talk about brilliance as an actor). I like Rashi too...esp. the tiny (baby) steps she is taking towards become a positive and productive member of the Modi household.

Big hugs dear aris22l and fellow IF Saathiyans in distress. We are united in this journey. We will make it through...

@Mina, thanks for your comments. I am not trying to make it look as if U.S. TV is better than the Indian TV channels. They all have their challenges and try to do the best possible job. This is just my POV and my reasons for my disappointment and a possible disconnect with the show in future.

The reason I am able to watch the American shows is because they are highly entertaining and are stress free unlike Indian soap operas. I don't feel a connection with those shows as I have felt with Gopi and SNS, hence it is difficult for me to watch, although I would continue to peek in until I feel a total disinterest.

This is just how I feel and I am not trying to discourage others from watching it. For me, Gopi was Saathiya, but people should watch it for other characters and the story going forward which may be interesting for some people. It is not just that Giaa has been replaced, I think the over all quality of the show and the story is going down hill for me.
I had almost stopped watching it after holi, but stayed with it for three reasons:

1. Ahemji repentance
2. Resolution of KK's
3. Gohem union

The first two are null and void now. Gohem union is not what I was looking forward to seeing.

I prefer the tea party in Carry on Up The Khyber. Watch it if you have not done so. Bawdy, innuendo and jokes abound. But joking aside. It does feel like it will die a death unknown to man. Will stick with it as long as possible.
