'TAKE ME TO YOUR ROOM NOW; I WANT TO SEE THE MONEY NOW!!' Urmilla was shouting loudly at her daughter Rashi to take her to see her precious money that she had hidden from her Daughter ' in ' law. The money did not belong to her but she had swapped the lottery ticket so she had won it instead. But it was a form of robbery.
'Mummy, shhh.' Rashi angrily said to her mum out of annoyance and the fear of being heard by someone else. 'Please, we can't go right now. We need to stay here or else Kagdi will become suspicious. Please mum, just quieten down. Rashi said to her mother in a hushed tone. Her mum was digging her own grave. They had planned to cause chaos in the Modi Mansion with the Bhang Laddo but Urmilla was forced into eating one herself, she could not refuse as she was under the stern gaze of Kagdi and could not risk refusing.
Involuntarily she had eaten the Laddo and was now suffering the effects. But she deserved it; with what she had done all her life she deserved at least some backfiring.
'NO, I WANT TO GO NOW. DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT CHOTE KAGDI IS AFTER MY MONEY, SHE MIGHT STEAL IT,' Urmilla shouted rather than spoke and she started to jump on the spot like a little child. This action of hers was sure to attract attention and so it did.
'Mummy, patience, we will go in a little while, once the party's over.' Rashi had enough of her mother's stupidity and stomped away thinking of a way to calm her mum down. Urmilla ran after her daughter and very desperately wanted to see her money for some reason. She pulled Rashi by her pallu and demanded to see the money. Rashi could no longer put up with this and reluctantly took her mother inside the house with her.
'I AM GOING TO SEE MY MONEY.' Urmilla yelled at the top if her voice and just then Kokila appeared and asked where they were heading towards. Rashi thought of something on the spot and quickly gave her reply without thinking.
'Mummy wanted to go to the washroom, so I am taking her' Rashi replied in a hurry.
'Oh, Rashi, why are you lying? Say that we are going to see our money.' Urmilla spluttered laughing and still intoxicated unaware of what she was saying. 'If I don't hide them, then your Kagdi daughter would take them away from me. Initially it was hers but I used my wonderful brain and stole the ticket off her,' Urmilla announced proudly to Kokila.
Kokila was fuming and was unable to hold back her anger. She wanted to shout at them but at the same time wanted to teach them a lesson.
'Rashi let me take your mother. You go and help Gopi serve the drinks.' Kokila said in a strict tone to which Rashi could not at all refuse. She mutely nodded and threw a helpless look at Urmilla and hurried off. Only praying that her mother would not say anything further, but knowing Urmilla, she could not be trusted with her intoxication.
'Vevanji, you know money is everything in life. That is all I want; money.' Urmilla said greedily to Kokila and Kokila threw a disgusted glance at Urmilla. Urmilla ran after Kokila into Rashi's room nearly pushing her on the way and she had almost tripped. On reaching there, Urmilla immediately ran towards the cupboard and pulled out the bag full of money and had a good look at it so she was contented that the money was safe. She turned towards Kokila and smiled her evil smile and started to laugh loudly.
'See how I took your daughters money? She cannot to any harm to me.' Urmilla said with a huge smirk on her face. Urmilla was still intoxicated and was not realising that she was spilling all the truth out in front of her most hated person.
'Urmilla Ben, I thought you needed to use the washroom' Kokila said with a straight face.
'You have seen your money now, so you may go.' Kokila showed Urmilla the door and she carefully placed the money back into the wardrobe and started to dance on her way out. Kokila was fuming and took the money out and walked downstairs out into the garden where the rest of the people were gathered.
Rashi and Urmilla were talking and Rashi was shouting at Urmilla because she had made a fool of herself in front of Kokila. 'Mummy, what have you done?' Rashi screamed exasperated at her mother.
'Rashi it is alright, I have seen and put my money carefully away' Urmilla was smiling satisfied. Rashi got a glass of cold water and splashed it on her mother's face who cried out loud for ruining her makeup. Then she was about to scream at her daughter when she saw that Kokila was walking towards Kinjal with the money bag and they both cried out in horror. Urmilla in the greed for her money was so engrossed in thinking about it that she had not even realised who she was talking to and what she had been saying. Now that she had calmed down after the water attack she realised that Kagdi had found out about the money.
'Rashi, what will happen now? All my money is gone' Urmilla was now crying and hitting her head. She ran towards Kokila but it was too late, she had already reached Kinjal who was standing there waiting for her mother to tell her something. Kinjal noticed the bag and remembered the money, she wanted to tell her mother about the lottery but she had to keep pestering Fai first and if she didn't listen then she would tell her mother. But she did not know what the 'something' her mother was going to tell her was going to change her life.
'Urmilla Ben, please be patient, this bag is safe by its owner only' Kokila said to Urmilla with a raised eyebrow. Kokila stretched the bag out towards Kinjal who went to take it but Urmilla grabbed it with her hands and her teeth biting onto the bag in case it fell or was taken away from her hands. Pulling it to her chest she made a run towards the exit but slipped badly on the mud face down; her sari was covered with the dirt and her face also. She now bore resemblance to the poor horse whose tail she had stolen.
Everyone stood there staring and some people were laughing. Kokila headed towards Urmilla and grabbed the bag in front of her face and took it away from her sight, she placed it into Kinjal's hands.
'Kinjal this is your money from the lottery, there is more than half so you should not worry about the rest that you Fai spent, after all she is your family member.' Kokila made Kinjal understand who was not willing to but gave in as something was better than nothing.
She sauntered up to Urmilla and said 'See Fai, truth always wins' and ginned.
'I will get my money back!' Urmilla jumped up to get it but failed again and this time slipped
but landed right on her buttocks. 'AHHH!!'
And everyone burst out laughing and Kokila had a proud smile on her face.
Thus, this is how the lottery was returned to its rightful owner.
