Nafisa love this post , I totally agree that although I am all for academic achievements I can't truly dismiss the importance of your skills as a homemaker . No matter how ambitious and successful we are , we still take on the cap of homemaker so how much easier our lives become if we acquire these skills to help us run our homes efficiently and also have the satisfaction of a job well done in caring for our families.. I know many woman who juggle successful careers and still have the responsibillity of caring for their homes , husband and children and thanks to these skills our moms impart to us we become successful in that arena as well and that really is what sets us apart from our male counterparts. Today I thank my mom for nagging me into learning these skills when I used to claim y wud I need it when I can get a maid but no maid wud give the personal touch a wife and mother provides and it does give me personal satisfaction that I can take care of what is mine. How silly I was to even say that to my wise mom who knew better but didn't dismiss my ideals as nonsense she knew it to be but use the tactic of learning it so that my inlaws are never given an opportunity to critize my upbringing.thank u mom

Very well put Sabarshni, I also want to say thank you to my mum who taught me how to cook, sew (my aunt taught me), cross stitch and crochet (my mum also taught me), knitting (I learnt from my aunt), but these women helped me in skills as a homemaker, that I will always be grateful to them.

All those younger forum members reading this and taniks post, these skills are really useful and best to learn what you can about homemaking, now whilst you are at home with mum.

@nafisa & vibz don't be scared not all inlaws are like mine , mine is in a class of their own they just loved to torment me cos I was from a different religion so they wanted to show me up to my hubby so he will realize the mistake he made in choosing somebody from a different religion. What did they know that the upbringing they gave him was to my benefit (lol) . That day score was dil 3 inlaws big fat 0 , cos I impressed the hell outta the extended family , proved them wrong and gained an even more besotted husband
