It is love not guilt. Remember all those moments before the accident scene: when ahem gave a navrati present to gopi (pink saree) an when he found out that gopi wasn't going coz his mum said so, he lied that he didn't feel well so he could stay home with her. Also when gopi felt backwards he caught her dragged her forwards and kind of smiles coz he loves her sense of beauty.
He does feel guilty sending her alone, but he said his part, we care for someone that we love. And ahem is in love with gopi, he will always be by her side and he finds it pleasure when his wife is around him, he cannot not even in a million of years can't live without GOPI MODI.
