I didn't know that I'd be updating just yet but I've written this just as I was avoiding doing any other work or going to bed!! I have been watching tv at the same time so I'm not entirely sure what I feel about this chapter!
Anyway enjoy!!
Chapter Six.
Kokila looked at her son over the breakfast table. As usual he had a blank look on his face. Ever since that night he'd been the same. The only person he truly relaxed with was Garv. Kokila was worried for her son, he needed bringing out of his self-imposed exile from life. She looked at mota bhabhi with the sadness clear in her eyes. Hetal smiled back at her, knowing exactly what was going through her best friends mind.
"Dado, can Gopi come over today? Please dado?"
"Today? But how are we going to ask her? We don't even have her number?"
"Dado we have her address, we can go there and pick her up."
"Yes I suppose we could." Kokila turned to speak to Ahem. "Ahem can you take us to Gopi's house? Garv is insisting."
"Mom I can't. I need to pop into the office for a few hours."
"Ahem dhikra you only came back yesterday, you'll still be tired, take the day off today."
"No mom, it's only a bit of work. The quicker I get it over with the quicker I can be home."
"Ok Ahem if that's what you want."
"Mom It's time for me to go."
"I'll walk you to the door."
Before Ahem could get up Garv quickly sat down into his lap. "Papa don't be gone too long ok! I want you to meet Gopi."
"Acha is that the only reason? You're not going to miss me?"
"No."
"Really?"
"Really!"
"Well we'll just see about that!" Ahem said and started tickling his son. "Now tell me are you going to miss me?"
"No!"
"Still no?" he carried on tickling him until finally Garv gave in.
"Ok papa, I will miss you!"
"That's more like it!" Ahem hugged his son and put him back onto his own chair. "Now be good for dado, I don't want to hear any complaints, you understand?"
Garv smiled up at his dad, who ruffled his hair.
Kokila and Ahem walked to the door. "Mom I didn't want to say anything in front of Garv but you shouldn't give in to him so easily. If you didn't want to go to that girl's house then you should have told him straight."
"No Ahem it's fine."
"Mom he needs to know he can't get his own way all the time. Whenever he wants something you or kaki always end up giving it to him."
"Ahem dhikra me and mota bhabhi are Garv's grandmother's it's our job to spoil him. Grandmother's spoil children and discipline falls to father's and moth-" Kokila stopped herself from finishing the sentence, and looked at Ahem with a stricken look. He was closed off again.
"I'll try and come back early." He stated and walked out, leaving Kokila staring after him a lone tear running down her face.
Gopi was cleaning up the kitchen, thankfully the marks on her face had faded overnight, and the tears she had shed hadn't ravaged her face much. Gopi had noticed her mami being much nicer to her today in front of Dhaval anyway.
"Gopi I'm going out in a little while to meet up with some friends. Are you going to be ok here or do you need me to stay?"
"While you were off at University I didn't have a bodyguard to protect me, anyway mami is fine with me as long as you're out of the picture." Ok so that was a bit of a white lie and Dhaval knew it.
"Ok whatever you say sweetheart, but if you need me ring me."
Gopi smiled back at her big brother and waved him off.
Urmila watching Dhaval leave scowled and walked in the direction of the kitchen. "Oh princess don't take all day cleaning this kitchen, I know full well your tactics. The whole house needs dusting yet too."
"Ji mami, there's only a little bit of work left here."
"Yeah well get a move on."
"Is this the house Kokila"
"Mota bhabhi last time we just dropped Gopi off near her house, she was in a rush and so were we, but the bhaisaab we asked gave us this address."
"Ok let's see then."
Gopi had been cleaning for an hour when the she heard the knock on the door.
"Oh Gopi who's going to answer the door? Your army of servants? Get a move on!"
"Ji mami." Gopi jumped of the stool she was standing on to dust the high shelves. She answered the door and was shocked to see them in front of her.
"Kokila aunty, Hetal aunty you? Here? Come in."
"Thanks beta, I hope we haven't disturbed you?"
"What are you saying auntyji? How can you disturb me. Come in I'll introduce you to my mami."
Hetal and Koki walked inside to be confronted with Urmila.
"Gopi! Who are you letting into my house?"
"Mamiji woh I"
"Jai Shri Krishna. I am Kokila Modi and this is my sister in law Hetal Modi."
Urmila eyes opened wide hearing just who it was that had happened to come to her house.
"Jai Shri Krishna! Please come in and sit down, why are you still standing?" She turned to Gopi. "Go and get some drink for our guests." Gopi ran to do her aunt's bidding before Kokila and Hetal could tell her not to.
"You haven't told us your name yet, we can't call you Gopi's mami only can we?"
Urmila smiled at the two ladies. "Seeing you two important people in my house I completely forgot to introduce myself. I'm Urmila Shah and like you know I'm Gopi's mami. But how do you know Gopi?"
Gopi walked in with some drink and snacks.
"Gopi beta what was the need for all this?"
"No Hetal aunty, this is the first time you've come to our house. So not only is it my duty to serve you but you also need to take something, you too Kokila aunty."
"Now that you're asking so prettily how can we refuse, right Kokila?"
"Ji mota bhabhi."
Urmila was feeling frustrated that her question had gone unanswered, "Gopi dhikra you never said how you came to know Kokilaben and Hetalben."
"Mami I met Kokila aunty in the market one day. She was there with her grandson."
"Your niece helped bring my grandson back to me after he decided to hide. Actually that's why we're here. Garv has been asking after you beta and has asked us if we can bring you to our house today."
"Auntyji Garv hasn't come himself?"
"He did want to come but I thought it was better to leave him at home. I didn't want him to pester you into agreeing especially if you were busy. Are you busy beta?"
"Auntyji I woh"
"Haan Gopi dhikra, go with Hetalben and Kokilaben, they've come here especially to ask you."
"But mami the housework?"
"Don't worry about the housework, I'll finish it. You go."
"Ji I'll just be a minute, I'll go and get ready."
Hetal and Kokila looked at each other, the more they saw of Gopi the more they realised she was perfect for them.
They got to the house and Gopi was awestruck by the magnificence of where the Modi's lived. Her footsteps refused to move any further. She'd realised that Kokila aunty was obviously high class but she hadn't expected such warm and down to earth people to live in such a palatial house.
"Gopi beta come inside, Garv will be waiting for you."
Hearing Kokila's motherly voice reassured her and she went inside to be greeted by a little whirlwind.
"Gopi aunty!! I was waiting for you." He ran straight into Gopi who had to balance herself otherwise they would have both ended up on the floor. She picked him up. "Garv be careful!! We could have both got hurt!"
"Sorry aunty, but I was just so excited to see you! I missed you!"
Gopi laughed and hugged him. "Acha? I missed you too! Now aunty told me that you invited me so I expect you to spend all the time looking after me, deal?"
"Deal!" And Garv sealed the deal with a kiss on Gopi's cheek. He wriggled out of her hold and grabbed her hand. "Come on then, I'll show you my room." Garv and Gopi went off upstairs leaving Kokila and Hetal happily staring after them.
Gopi was pulled this way and that way by Garv, he was so excited to show her everything important to him. He even gave her a tour of the house until finally they landed back in his bedroom. Garv decided he wanted to show Gopi his secret things. He got out a photo album and was about to show Gopi when Kokila finally tracked them down.
"Has our little scamp tired you out Gopi? Come on both of you downstairs, have something to eat."
"Auntyji I really should be going back now. I've been here for a while."
"Gopi beta you're not leaving without eating something, and this time I won't take no for an answer. Anyway we have other family members waiting to meet you downstairs."
Gopi reluctantly made her way downstairs feeling somewhat nervous about meeting the other people. What would they think of her? She hadn't even said hello to anyone before she'd gone up with Garv.
She was led to the lounge where a few people were waiting for her. Gopi was introduced to Kinjal, Chirag, Parag and Jigar.
"So Garv, this is the new friend that you've forgotten your kaka for?" Jigar said to Garv. Garv laughed and hugged Gopi around the waist. "Gopi aunty is more than a friend, she's my best friend!"
"Well can she be our friend too?"
"No! She's my friend!"
Gopi frowned down at Garv. "Garv. That's not very nice! What if I want to be your kaka's friend?"
"But why when you've got me?"
"It's nice to have lots of friends, it means more people love you."
Garv stood and thought, and then smiled. "OK"
Gopi turned to Jigar and smiled. "Would you like to be friends Jigarji?"
"I would love to be your friend Gopiji! But just one request, drop the ji, just call me Jigar."
Gopi laughed and said, "Then you have to do the same and call me Gopi."
Chirag and Parag looked at their wives realising what it was that they had seen in Gopi.
Everyone went into the dining room and had lunch. At the end Gopi offered to help clean up and was told to sit and relax, however realising the time she asked permission to leave.
"Gopi you can't go on your own. Jigar will drop you off."
"No aunty don't put Jigarji to any trouble, I'll make my way home."
"Now that's not fair Gopi, first you make friends with me and then you talk about trouble? And you put ji on the end of my name."
"Sorry Jigar."
"No sorry. Now I'm definitely going to drop you home."
Gopi agreed and took the blessings of the elders, shook hands with Kinjal and gave Garv a tight hug, telling him to be good.
Jigar and Gopi went to the car and drove off just as another car pulled in.
OK so there's still no meeting of GoHem, but I want Ahem's past to come out a little more before I introduce them to each other. I hope Garv made up for it though!!
Let me know what you thought!!
