She looked at her image on the mirror. AWEFUL! That was first word that came to her mind. Yes, in fact she looked scary. A character straight out of a Sarah Michelle Geller movie! But then she had been crying her heart out. Not just now, but for a whole year. Shedding tears for her shattered dreams, her lost hope, her life and what not. One year! One year since she had last seen Ahem. Fate had been so cruel to her.
She left the mirror and went to her bedside and found that one book she had always kept close to her. "Love Story" by Erich Segal! The book Ahem had given her during their courtship. The book that was part of her cherished time with him! She opened the cover and found the personal words he had written to her' "To my dear, with love' Ahem". She ran her fingers through them; it felt like caressing his face.
He had loved her then, he had said so and she had believed him. She flipped through the page and found the photograph. The photograph of them together taken during their happy days! Ahem looked so happy with her. She couldn't recognize her face with the one she saw a few minutes back in the mirror. What a contrast?
Together they had planned a life together. A future! A future that included children, their children! But now, he was no where in her future and she in his. She sighed. What had happened to them? Why had this happened to them?
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah'. She screamed. Fell on her knees, her palms covering her face and she screamed her heart out. She cried and her cry turned to sob and then again scream'. Noooooooooooooooooooooooo''
Suddenly she heard another cry from another part of the house. The cry of a baby, her baby! Alan Modi, her son! Her six month old baby with Ahem! She heard Alan cry again. Oh her son needs her with him. She had to go to him. She opened the door of her room and went to her son's nursery. Oh that haughty Miss. Jane was still there. Jane, The nanny! She hated the sight of her son's nanny. The lady who kept the mother and child away from each other! She had to stop her son from crying. Jane saw her and looked at her astonished.
"Miss, what are you doing here? You are supposed to be in your room." Jane said to her. But she didn't care. Jane can go to hell. She ran to Alan side and tried to hold him. But Jane took him away instantly.
"Give him back, I said give him back" she shrieked. But Jane stood her ground. "Miss, Go back to your room" Jane ordered. But she is not going to listen to a nanny, no way!
Suddenly she heard footsteps and the door to nursery open. Their stood the man she feared all her life with some one she didn't recognize. A stranger!
"Anita, go to your room'"The man she feared, her father commanded. She better listen to him or he will again chain her. The stranger had a look of shock on his face that clearly said that he couldn't believe his eyes. She politely made way to her room slowly.
"Eh, what happened to her?" she heard the stranger ask her father.
"What can I say, Mr. Bakshi? It's Postpartum Psychosis which turned to complete Schizophrenia." Her father replied and she could imagine the shock on the strangers face. Darn him! She hate anybody sympathizing with her.
She reached her room and closed the door behind her. She sat on the bed and reached for the photograph again. A smile forming on her lips at the sight of Ahem. Her Ahem!
"Ahem, where are you? You know that your Anita is waiting for you, Don't you darling?" She said to the image on the photograph. She placed the picture back in the book and hugged it close to her heart. Then she laid down on the bed and slowly went to sleep. All the time repeating "I love you, Ahem"!
