"When the supervising producer of the serial, Neelu called me for the audition, she asked me to carry my own sarees, makeup kit etc. During those days I had kept a new maid who was just about 15-16 years old. I had asked her to pack my bags. When I reached the shoot and checked my saree, I was shocked to see that the pallu was burnt. The maid had burnt it while ironing and was too scared to inform the same. I was flabbergasted and didn't know what to do as the shoot had to be done with the only saree available there. It was then that Neelu and I jointly came up with the idea of the mermaid drape. The screen test was done and when the channel checked the tapes, they were so impressed that they decided to go ahead with the unique look," Ashlesha reveals the secret. The pretty actress admits that it was such a pleasant accident that she didn't need to say anything to her maid. "Oh, I didn't scold her or something because she is such a young girl. I just told her that she should have informed me. But then it turned out for the best, right! So it was all okay." So how comfortable is she with the mermaid drape of hers? "Yes, in the beginning me and my hairdresser used to take half an hour to get ready since we had to take care of a number of things, I didn't want to end up looking clumsy. Everything needed to be in place after all. But now, with practice it just takes a few minutes and I am perfectly comfortable with it," she assures. So that puts to rest the rumors that she is uncomfortable with the drape of her saree because of the rising Mumbai heat. "Why would I want to change it? After all it's become the Tara thing now, a part of her identity." |
