From dreams of capturing the skies as an aviation pilot to hard-core ramp modelling and now movies, Rakesh comes across as one of the most promising faces in the city modelling circuit.
This chocolate-faced stunner credits it all to lady luck who smiled upon him in 1998 at the Mr Pune Man of the Millennium contest where he won the title of the best personality and was subsequently adjudged second runners-up at the main contest.
Results were evident and Nov 1998 proved to be the luckiest month that year for Rakesh who was selected as one of the finalists of the Grasim Mr India contest just before he won the Kodak Mr Photogenic title in the city.
In early 1999, he participated and bagged the first runners-up title at the Grasim Mr India contest after he was adjudged Grasim Radisson Best Dressed Male in the preliminaries.
"It was at the contest that the event di-rector Anshuman Swami introduced me to film-director Nitish Roy who invited me for an audition for a film," he says about 'Heartbeat', a movie that he finally bagged after gruelling screen tests.
After the Grasim Mr India contest, Rakesh participated at the Inter-continental pageant at Germany in Oct 1999 where he won another string of titles and stood among the top eight.
Back in Mumbai, he did a few ad-films for top brands and is now carefully chalking out a career in ads, music videos and films though his ultimate aim is to explore the technical side of the on-screen creativity. A national award winning painter, he plays the flute and the sitar, is a good singer, likes trekking and working out and is a district level swimmer.... all hobbies that further add colour to this charis-matic personality.
Traditionally handsome, he is a very practical and levelheaded person and has taken all his success in his stride.
