Toasty has realized that nani ma is going to be more of a sasu ma to her and other C-bahus and so she has taken the challenge to battle it out with a smile. She understands nani ma will be very critical of things just like a saas but she plans to endure it all, learn it all and ultimately make nani saas proud of C-bahus. Toasty is definitely a girl with lots of patience and strength.

I, for one, cringed at the idea of making chutney on sil-batta vs electric mixer. As if, toasty has less things to take care of in the house that now she has to spend 1 hour making chutney in old style when it can be done in 5-10 mins with less pain.

We thought Chedi was stuck on traditional values and customs, now get ready for nani ma to dig out super-conservative ideas in the name of preserving Indian culture and tradition.

Sorry, I am a little upset with nani's attitude today. I also do not believe in donation of money to temples and priests so I don't support the idea of giving gold idol to a priest. First of all, gold is SO expensive today and secondly, I would rather use that money towards to-be-born child's future education fund or find a well-deserving poor person who is working hard to lead a good life for his/her family and give them the money and get their blessings.

These are strictly my personal views and I do not mean to offend anyone at any level.

Oh my...a gold idol to a temple?

What the hell? What is that going to do?

I agree with you, that money is better spent helping someone out...that is what GOD would prefer...for you to help and care for others, for you to show compassion.

What exactly is a gold idol going to do?

Toasty is an amazing woman...I hardly think I would have put up with such narrow minded thinking.
I love how she smiles and figures out ways to get to a solution.

Yeah I definitely don't know how I feel about a gold idol :/ A silver idol would have done if they wanted to give an idol to the priest. My family donates some money to the temple but we've never donated such large amounts...I mean a gold idol is too much. And it's almost like bribery in a way...small donations made should simply be out of thanks for the temple giving us a place to worship...but the best way to give thanks to God himself is by doing good deeds and like you mentioned, donating money to some good cause instead. God would definitely appreciate that more.

I don't really believe in any of these kinds of superstitions...my Nani has a lot of similar ones but my mom and I don't follow them because they just don't make sense.
