Is this Subhash K Jha the same journalist who was accused of behaving indecently to Sonu? There was a lot of fuss on Sonu's open statements on this matter. I'm not sure is this is the same person.

I am not sure if it is SKJ but will look it up and will post soon.

He is the same person. I have confirmed it.

Now we can think about the credibility of this article 😉

One thing for sure SKJ do have credibility issue but I will say one thing that something is there to it is true may not be the whole nine yard.

I wanted to quit: Sonu Nigaam
19 Nov 2007, 0000 hrs IST
,TUSHAR DUTT ,TNN

Sonu Niigaam has donned many hats ever since he started his singing career at the age of three.

He's been a singer, an actor; albeit briefly and a much loved anchor. And after a decade and a half of successful innings at singing, Sonu says, "There is still a lot to learn."

This vein of candidness continues throughout the interview as Sonu who was in town to perform for the 'Times Ahmedabad Festival', says, "The struggle never really ends. I can't think of taking it easy at this stage of my career. And whenever I had made the mistake of doing so, I found that the world moved ahead. Everything changes so fast that I have to continuously keep updating myself."

Sonu shocks us by saying that he had almost made up his mind to quit."I wanted to do so last year. My idea of life goes beyond Bollywood. I have a constant urge to learn more and there are so many things that I have to explore about the world around me. I don't want to get addicted to work and success," says Sonu.

However, he also admits that he's "quite happy now and working with renewed vigour." In fact, he's looking forward to Sudhir Mishr's Khoya Khoya Chand and says that he "stuck to the basics while singing for the movie. It is a period film and I avoided modern nuances and stuck to the retro style."

Does this versatile singer take kindly to criticisms? "I don't think I have ever been criticised for my style of singing. Except for the years from 1994 to 1996 when I sang some mediocre songs. I was accused of being a 'Rafi' clone but later on I got wide acceptance," says Sonu.

He has a strong feeling that he was "scrutinised because I came up with some very good work and made money and contacts at a young age. Today, people come up to me with so many offers and they also claim to have liked me in Love in Nepal!"

Sonu also credits himself with the change in how playback singers are looked upon in the industry. "Earlier, playback singers never thought themselves to be capable of acting, anchoring and endorsing products. That is why they failed to become icons. I think I changed that perspective," says Sonu.

On a parting note, Sonu says that he loved Ahmedabad and that "the city continues to surprise him with the way it keeps growing." The city loves you back as well, Sonu. Be our guest.
