A lot has been made about antics of Salman on the latest SRGMP episode and many have questioned the need for having celebrity as a judge

In my opinion when you judge a talent hunt, they should go by

1. Does the rendtion convey the mood of the song

2. Does it maintain the required sur

3. Do they maintain the correct diction

In the current crop of mentors/judges, I expect all the mentors to judge by #1 and #2, however I hold Vishal and Ismail Darbar more responsibile for #3. Vishal being a lyricist himself and ID having a good knowledge of Urdu/saaf Hindi.

Bappida's own diction is so bad, it is unfair to expect him to have good knowledge on that, Himesh understands the tunes very well but diction I doubt(not bashing him, just what I feel about each mentor)

However I havent seen as much as diction related corrections on this show. Jatin Pandit used to be very particular during his days at SRGMP, I really miss him in this aspect

Mauli made some critical errors in diction in her rendering of Maiya Maiya all the judges just sat there and clapped, same happens with Joy and Abhijit and sometimes Nirpama that I have noticed

Why does it take a Salman Khan to raise this point. Dont these judges/mentors understand a word uttered wrongly completely changes the feel of a song? Abhijit(the notorious one) the other day was illustrating this point so well on the other show. Dont these mentors on this show know this or they just dont care?

I say have Salman more often on this show or fire one of these mentors and get Jatin Pandit or a Prasoon Joshi here

what do you feel? you are welcome to disagree with me(and offcourse wrong😉)

Great post Vineet... Yes, diction is one aspect that really does not get the focus with the mentors... I wish, the show had a Javed Akhtar... Woh to II me hosts ka tallaffuz bhi nikhar rahe hai 😊 You are also very correct about Jatin Pandit.. It was really nice to see him point it out to Prantika in voi, where she went wrong with Chadhta and Badhta etc... Alka and Abhijeet does that as well... I remember Ismail doing that in C05 as well... Wonder what happened to him now! Diction seems to be a problem with majority of the contestants 😕 .. Other than the singers from Pakistan and Dubai, who anyway should be good with Urdu 😊 , and the ones from Hindi Belt 😊 , all the others seem to be suffering... Even Raja does not pronounce all the words very clearly... Joy, Nirupama and Mauli - the lesser we say the better

Everyone talks about a feel of a song, that changes person to person, it is basically understanding the song

Singer needs to understand what the line means, what context is it in and say it appropriately

example a simple like

Tumhe muzhse pyar hai, it has one meaning

now read the line giving emphasis on the bold letter

Tumhe muzhse pyar hai

Tumhe muzhse pyar hai

Tumhe muzhse pyar haihai (with a question)

now think often is this line in a song?
