Himesh's Assalaam not Welcome-d by Anees

Reshammiya's hit Assalaam Vaalekum rejected by Bazmee for his upcoming film Welcome

A lesser-known fact about Himesh's hit number Assalaam Vaalekkum (penned by Sameer) is that it was first offered to Firoz Nadiadwala's upcoming multi-starrer Welcome, to be directed by Anees Bazmee.

The film stars Anil Kapoor, Akshay Kumar, Nana Patekar, Mallika Sherawat and Katrina Kaif. Apparently, Firoz and Aneez rejected the song outright.

Himesh unwelcome

Says a source from the Nadiadwala camp, "Firoz and Anees were looking for a song to be picturised on Anil, Akshay and Nana. Himesh brought Assalaam Vaalekum to the table. The duo did give it an listen but didn't like it at all." When contacted, Bazmee admits that Himesh's offering did not interest him.

"But it was not Assalaam Vaalekum. I am not Tansen, but I have an ear for music. I have worked with the man who had the best choice in music — Raj Kapoor — for four years. I didn't like that song and I told him then and there," he says.

Nadiadwala, however, does not deny that they turned down the Assalaam Vaalekum number. He says, "Bazmee will be the best person to answer this. As a producer, I don't interfere in each and every matter."

Replacement theory

Anand Raj Anand replaced Himesh and has composed the song for that particular sequence. "I saw that Himesh was very busy with Aap Kaa Surroor. So, I didn't coax him to give me a replacement. I assigned that song to Anand Raj Anand.

In fact, Anand Raj Anand has composed three songs in Welcome and Himesh has composed two," Bazmee adds. Reshammiya remained unavailable for comment, but one of his close friends says, "Assalaam Vaalekum is a hit. Himesh is having the last laugh."

However, another source neutral to both camps remarks, "It is difficult to say at this point if Nadiadwala and Bazmee committed a blunder. The fate of Aap Kaa Surroor and Welcome at the turnstiles will decide that."

That is good !! This means the song is hit on it's own merit. Rather than depending on the storyline of a movie!! 😃
