With contestants in SRGMP coming from all over the world, it would be very interesting to watch for this

An actor in a film talks normal hindi, when it gets to singing the playback the actor assumes the accent, the mannerisms of the playback singer. Now contestants coming from all over the world they carry their own accents in real life, does any of their personal accent show up while singing?

I know Ashaji and Ghulam Ali would be watching like hawks for the change in accents

Last time around we had Paresh who had a thick British accent in real life but while singing it never showed up. Hemachandra used to flash his accent once in a while, there is going to be a change in diction once in a while, will the singers from Pakistan be able to mould their diction to a Bambaiya Hindi once in a while? Will the singers from US and other countries be able to mould their singing?

Diction/Accent can be moulded over a period of time, but is it justified to hold that against a contestant for the duration of the contest?

Himesh's songs are mostly nasal but are wildly popular, when contestants pick to choose Himesh songs, should they hold onto the nasal twang or mould it to their style, should/will the judges hold that against the contestant, some interesting judging panel we have will be interesting how they tackle this

Just some random thought while watching the promos of the various shows😉

Just like Paresh this time we have already seen mauli showing accent while speaking but in her singing the accent was completely missing. This week we will get to hear Sumana sing so taking maybe we will get to hear speak too. Her singing don't have accent that we all know.

I don't think the Pakistani singers will face this problem. They are already hindi speaking. It will be the ones from west who I feel will face this diction problem.

My own point of view is yes diction should be taken into count. Just imagine someone singing a hindi song in Southy accent or a bengali accent!!! Yes I agree it takes time to get out of this accent but to ignore that will be wrong in my opinion. The accent may mar the basic feeling of the song itself.

Now the nasal factor I don't think the judges are going to give much attention to that. Hardly matters. But somehow I have always found that when someone else sings his songs they by instinct bring this nasal effect. 😆 So I don't think there will be any problem on this factor.

I think the question here should be...

Is it better to fake the accent and sing well, or scrap the accent and sing poorly?

Personally I wouldnt want anyone to fake or make accent..first...
now there are some songs ..like some hindi songs which has a touch of regional languages..right now iam thinking about this" chalat musafir lae gayein ro" ...in these types of songs its good to "fake" the accent and that is diff... but otherwise I donot think u should fake the accent..like bringing original singers nasal tone..you should be ur self and bring originality in that song...

Language and accent are 2 different things...You could learn a song in say telegu or any other regional langauge( not ur native) and work at getting the pronunciation right so its clear.. but this does not mean you then need to put on an accent..?

How about if someone has to sing songs that SP has sung for Salman? that is the singers accent showing up, now if a contestant is singing, should they fix it?

Now if there is a song which purposely has an accent in it, but the contestant fails to produce it, say the song is in Bombaiya hindi and someone tries to sing it with saaf Urdu diction?

Maybe a song is in hinglish, but someone sings it in English(remember the comment Salman had for Joy), there is a fine touch by Kunal to that song, but Joy missed that. shouldnt that count?

We have various people singing Ashiq Banaya aapne last time around, Vinit, Sharib Vinit went with the nasal, Sharib stayed away from it, who gets points or points cut for that?

Unfortunately judges have totally ignored the diction and the accent component from judging here at SRGMP, why does one need Salman for that?

Last time when Javed Akhtar Saab was on the show someone sang hamma hamma, he said your diction was bad but so was the original singer's, so you copied him fully. He said his diction not being good was perfect in the context of the song hamma hamma because the song demands that. 😊

Nice point.. According to me if a person who has different mother tongue tries to sing the song of some other language, they must first know the pronunciation properly.. Let me give you an example - Udit Narayan, Shreya sing in Tamil movies too.. Shreya is really good at dictions, sometimes we wonder if she knows tamil that well.. Her pronunciation is too good.. But Udit - sorry to say i get annoyed when he sings tamil songs.. His diction is not proper and nearly gives the feeling that we are not listening to a tamil song..

Such cases happened in the past too.. Yesudas, S.Janaki, SPB who were mainly south based singers started singing hindi songs too.. But if you closely listen, you will get in the south indian accent for sure.. Being a south indian myself i can say that it is very difficult to pronounce tamil words.. There are certain letters which only those who know tamil very well can pronounce it otherwise its not possible.. A singer should first understand the minute details of this diction.. anyone can sing in another language but the minute details definitely get missed out..

Yes, maybe this will be the case of Pakistani singers too.. not sure..
