No, I'm not talking about their singing. I'm talking about public sympathy.
Flashback to C2005. Debojit regularly gets low points from Himesh/Aadesh, who leave no chance to criticize him. He accepts it with a smile and never loses his cool. Public feels sympathetic towards him. He wins C2005.
Forward to C2007. On the first day Yogendra is dissuaded from singing his guru's song, and when he does, he is given a very public lesson on how he should have sung. Yog takes it in the right spirit and even applauds his mentor's performance. In the very next episode, Yog's chances are dismissed by his mentor even before he gets a chance to come on stage. Barely does he finish his performance than Himesh gets the mike and remarks that it was a bad performance, even before the other mentors can comment on it. All through this, Yog handles it with a smile - an attitude that even Asha ji commends him on. He's already won her sympathy - and that of a million others.
See the similarities? No, I'm not saying Yogendra will win this competition. But his mentor's leaving no stones unturned to ensure that he gets public support right from from the beginning. And if that means he has to divert his ire towards his own contestants, then so be it.
