Singer Udit Narayan was leading a quite life until he was accused of polygamy by his alleged first wife Ranjana and then even found guilty of it! Now as a judge of the Indian Idol 3, at the launch of the show, we confront him to know his side of the story.

Apparently your second wife Dipa has left you now?
I have only one wife and that's Dipa. Aditya is our son and we are very much staying together. It just happens that God sometimes wants to prove something and thus such things (read polygamy case) happen.
What is your son Aditya up to?
Aditya is 19 years old and is studying western music at Vocal Tech Institute in the UK. Don't know about acting but Aditya loves to sing.
Apparently you had a tiff with Anu Malik, and now you are a co-judge on Indian Idol 3 along with him?
I've never had any serious issues with Anu Malik. Arguments keep happening all the time between music directors and singers, it's normal.
Sonu Nigam mimics your singing style and Bihari accent a lot. Apparently you don't like it much?
I think Sonu admires me a lot. You can ape a person only if you think about him 24/7. For instance, there's not a single actor in Bollywood who does not imitate Dilip Kumar saab . I don't think he wants to ridicule me.
Apparently senior singers don't allow youngsters to settle down in the music industry?
My father was a farmer. When I expressed my desire of being a singer, he was shocked. But I've struggled my way up. I don't think politics exist, I never faced it but if at all it does, you have to overcome it. These reality shows have made the job of aspiring artists so much better.
You have lent your voice to many superstars. Who do you think does justice to your voice perfectly?
I started my career with Aamir Khan in 'Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak', so I have this special affection towards Aamir, but Shah Rukh Khan, Salman and Shahid Kapur can carry off my voice extremely well too. Shah Rukh induced life to my voice in 'Darr', 'Dil To Pagal Hai' and 'Swades'.
Which are the singers you admire?
Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher, KK, Kunal Ganjawala, Shreya Ghoshal and Sunidhi are really talented.
Which of the above do you consider as your competitor?
None. I respect them all and we have our unique identities.
