"Lata ji Didn't Like me Promoting New Singers," says Ravindra Jain
<>document.write('Faridoon Shahryar, ') Faridoon Shahryar, IndiaGlitz [Thursday, November 16, 2006]

"Lata ji didn't like me promoting new singers," says Ravindra Jain, the veteran music composer who made a comeback with Sooraj Barjatya's ode to marriage 'Vivah' recently. Winner of the prestigious 'Lata Mangeshkar Award' conferred on him this year by the Maharashtra Government, Jain considers the rendition of 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' by Lata as one of her best. "I introduced singers like Hemlata with 'Ankhiyon Ke Jharoke Se' as I wanted new talent to come forward, but somehow Lata ji didn't like that," he adds.

Known for soulful melodies, Ravindra Jain started his career with 'Sunayna' and earned fame with one of Amitabh Bachchan's earlier films 'Saudagar'. 'Tera Mera Saath Rahe' and 'Sajna Hai Mujhe Sajna Ke Liye' from that film are golden melodies that touch the soul even today. He went on to compose songs like 'Gori Tera Gaon Bada', 'Jab Deep Jale Aana', 'Main Hoon Khushrang Henna', 'Le Jayenge Le Jayenge', 'Ghungroo Ki Tarah' which still reverberate in the collective unconscious of the country. He also gave music for Ramanand Sagar's television serial 'Ramayan'.

His latest offering 'Vivah' is a mixed bag. 'Mujhe Haq Hai' attracts immediately while the rest of the song appeal in the context of the film. Ravindra Jain is a true gem of the soil who is an inspiration for all those who are handicapped and yet attained a lot in life. Being blind hasn't deterred him from writing lyrics and composing for numerous films and private albums. IndiaGlitz salutes his giant achievements.

Wow... that's news to me! Not sure why Lataji would feel inferior if new singers were introduced as she has soared where noone will perhaps be able to reach. Thanks for sharing the article. 😛

I like RJ's Music and Lata ji's act is no news. I still feel bad for Suman Kalyanpur though and I know Punjini ji , you donot agree with me but I like Suman's mostly all songs and Asha/Lata Era kind of killed quite a few talent like this.

But yes we did get melodious and sadabaher and amazing songs from duo too

Lataji is a singing legend nod oubt, but that does not mean she is a selfless nice person too.I think that should resolve lot of controversies we have had regarding Lata's hold for power. You cant deny that it is a fact now. I know that she did that to Vani Jayaram and Sulakshana Pandit. I am sure it is true. it is a matter of power trip. I wonder in this age and era if Lata was a singer, if she would have had similar accolades since it seems like there is so much more competition now and all songs in one movie are not sung by same singers which gives variety

LataJi did not work with KalyanJi Anandji after they decided to promote Sadhana Sargam. So its true that the duo wanted their monopoly in the music industry

Hari Om ji, this was never a secret. Anuradha Podwal has also confirmed it many times. Sometimes I wonder if Geeta Dutt didnt back out due to her personal problem, THen may Be we may not have seen talent of Asha. As OP was big fan of Geeta and got Asha when Lata refused to sing for a new MD and Geeta was too involved in her personal problems.

Anyone who is succesful has rumors about them, But there is a lot of jealousy involved, the duration for which Lataji has been succesful, no wonder she has many rumors, none about the talent, but her personal side.

I dont know much about it first hand, some of the things on the music industry might just be sour grapes, If you look today how much stuff gets thrown at Himesh Reshmaiyya from the industry.

So a person like Lataji, I would not side on the either side for the lack of knowledge
