Are you talking about Rosenmund's reduction ?? My chemistry is not very strong..but please see if this is what you are looking for :

i) Rosenmund's reduction :-

Acid chlorides are reduced with H2 in the presence of palladium catalyst coated with barium Sulphate, aldehydes are formed. This reduction is known as Rosenmund's reduction. Barium sulphate is used to retard the activity of palladium. Otherwise further reduction of aldehydes occur which results in primary alcohol.

R - C -CL ----------------> R - C - H + HCl

CH₃ - CO - CL --------------> CH₃CH_O + HCl
