thx Angie. now let's shatter some of the illusions about the old sgmp. let's compare apples and apples.

first, the duet rounds in that old format sounded horrible. they just had the live orchestra cover up all the boo-boos. in actuality, the pairs were often out of sync and were often cacophonous. the quality we perceived came from having the live band, which always adds an exciting dimension to the performance. they wld often cut away the camera to the band members, show the drummer, the other instrumentalists. all that provided an illusion as to the actual singing quality. it was still performance, though of a different nature, not necessarily singing quality. the duet singing in emaet is much more synchronized and polished sounding than anything we had previously.

as for some of the series contests, anyone remember the world series hunt? that was a joke. the girl from jamshedpur was far better than all the others, as was the guy who eventually won. some of the singing in that contest was pathetic. most of the contestants from that contest would not have and did not even make it to c2005.

as for the 2 new contestants a week format, sure we got to see two new people each week. but that's like having quantity instead of the up-front 32-singer quality we got out of c2005. zee can recycle some of the folks they short-listed through their India-wide hunt in c2005, but do we really want to see those bottom performers trouped out in the name of "fresh" singers?

some folks have a problem with the performance aspects of the new formats. but zee has to also make money and in any case, that does not say anything about the quality of singing we have actually had with the new show.

in fact most of the arguments around here have really come about because all the 32 or 16 singers were really very good in c2005. on any day, they sounded better than the others. that was quality!

Just an idea - why don't you start a poll - asking actually how many use to watch SRGMP before C2005!

nahee yaar. i thought someone else would know why. i just loved those guys. problem now is that the camera does not have anywhere else to focus on, so we get to see all the warts n all and all of Twinkle's facial contortions. so many performers each week, twice a week. earlier, it was just 4 or 6 at the max. editor wld have all the time to just piece together the best shots to make it look like "singing".

- now the editor (GS) also has to spend time on other management aspects of the show. lack of focus and running around doing different things maybe contributing to some of the blow-ups!!!

wish they got the live band back. but i suppose for a contest, we dont want any performance to be affected, in any way because of other factors. what if the live band did not do a particular song well, or conversely gave an unfair advantage to another?

yaar, i'd thought of it but did not feel the polls around here really mean much. i wld also expect the old show to win hands-down over the new format in that poll- wld not say much to me, just that folks often have a knee-jerk reaction to things. in any case, the "sample" here does not seem to be very indicative of the bigger-world. we cld certainly get something out of it if we cld classify votes by preferences and background of voter... but did not want to get into all of that.

Not so sure about that. If you observe the number of HR-fans vs Non-fans, it'll give you an indication of what the make-up of the forum is. Majority of the younger generation will go for the new format, and majority of the older, for the older. Take a poll on the age group of the forum, and then see if it would be a fair sample.

I had a great meeting yesterday with one of my mentor – former country manager of Shell. In a total different context he said something like – 'good feelings are always preserved in the memories – and bad are discarded'. I thouth it is so appropriate for SRGMP

If this show continue for another 10 years – come back to this forum and people will claim 'yesterday was so good than today'. That's applicable to all form of art and culture including societal rituals.

good ideas. but often a poll thread just gets reduced to "i agree", "i disagree", "this rocks" and "that sucks" kind of "analytical" statements. just did not see the value there. wanted to maintain a somewhat serious discussion format here (of course, nothing stopping from jumping to the fun threads too!!! but all fun and no work makes for a bad boy😉)

wld be happy to have someone do those polls if they wanted to...
