Mentors' Top Picks ...

We have been talking about the singers but let us see how these Gurus picked as their top # 1 Choices:

1. ID: Nihira and Niladri

2. JL: Abhijeet and Sanchali

3. HR: Dilshad and Joyeeta

4. AS:Hemachandra and HemaBindu

VOW !! Only two of the top picks remain: Nihira and Hema. How good were these mentors in their top picks. Any comments guys, over to you.....

I say this is very poor picking on our Mentors' part.....

wow...i forgot about that...i'm surprised by quite a lot of these.

i think ID's choices were sensible because at the start niladri was the best boy in his group (debojit improved later) and nihira has always been the best!

i personally didn't like either of JL's 1st choices...they were good technically but i just didn't like their voices...i preferred sharib and swananda in that gharana...so i think bad choice on their part

i find it slightly funny that HR's 1st choice was neither vineet nor aishwarya with the amount that he goes on and on about them. dilshaad and joyeeta- sometimes i thought they were really good and sometimes i thought they were really bad...i think HR could have made a better choice there

AS's choices were OK i think...hemachandra is a great singer and hemabindu has a really nice voice...she just seemed to get too nervous making her performances not very good, whereas himani has both confidence and a good voice

Nothing personal but I am pretty sure JL picked Sanchali as # 1 and Ujjaini came in on round 3 with Vineeta, Ban Jyotsna and Rakhtima. I think I am right - someone help clear this please too....

We are all grown ups here. Please let's forgive and forget - I will apologize on jmn7's behalf - let us have fun and not loose this moment, It is all about music.
Please let us move move on - do not get distracted. My humble request to all of you - pleaaazzzzz move on and give your comments on the mentors' picks. It is a very Strategic topic and the mentors may be reading this too..

My comments:

JL: they had the last picks both for male and female, they picked Sanchali
and Abhijeet both very trained classical singers and both alums and
winner in past SRGMP shows. I love Sharib today but in the beginning he
was a little shaky so I can see why he was not the first pick.

ID: Nihira was everyone's first choice and since ID got first pick both
times he picked her Both she and Niladri are classically trained. Twinkle
chose ID because back then she cared about singing. It is my recollection
that Twinkle got the second pick after Himani and chose ID. Every person
who got into ID's gharana was so happy - -they really admired his
classical base. I rememebr ID's blatant disappontment when Paresh got
into his gharana because of his lack of training but I guess he grew to
love Paresh.

AS: He picked the two strong South Indian contenders. Regionalism? He
probably assumed that both of them being South Indians had incredible
discipline, musical families and strong classical training that would give
them an edge over everyone else. Yes, these are stereotypes but in this
case it was true. unfortunately, Himabindu had some stage perofrmance
issues and was out.

HR: Dilshad and Joyeeta --why? He kept going on about a fresh voice but
then chose as his first pick Dilshad. Joyeeta was not annoying back then
so she seemed like a good first pick.

I don't remember Himani until she picked AS and then she wowed me.
Bhumik and Nanu were always weak and would never have been picked.

The wildcard entries were randomly placed into gharanas.

I want everyone to notice that the mentors all went for CLASSICAL training
(including HR) so now I find it stupid when they seem to pander to the
public's taste to superficial.
