I agree with rubina to a certain extent. Yes she's right about how women even till this date are not paid equally on par with men for the same roles, their role in society is also undermined in favour of men too. However, when it comes to pay in the entertainment industry, it is different. Normal jobs that require qualifications and work experience see a lot of pay inequity and opportunities to work between men and women even when they have the same qualifications and work experience just because women tend to have more time off from work due to maternity leave and childcare responsibilities as well as other reasons, but in the entertainment industry, there are many factors taken into consideration when deciding who gets how much, and it is beyond just male and female.
If a woman is a more experienced, well-established and popular actress as well as is able to pull the audience, then she will be in a position to demand a higher pay, regardless of whether she is in a lead role or a important supporting role. If the same actress is in a leading role opposite a male actor who is also playing a male lead, but he isn't as popular and well-established as the female lead actress, then neither would he be paid as much as the actress, or be in a position to demand as much as her.On the other hand, if the male actor, as in many cases, is more famous and popular and pulls more of the audience, then he will be paid more than his female counterpart. If we look at rubina and vivian, vivian not so long ago did a very successful show, madhubala, which gained him a massive following and popularity. So before he did shakti, he had already gained a massive fan following, had already just come from recently doing a very successful show, and most fans of shakti are actually his fans.Rubina on the other hand, has also done one very successful show, choti bahu, followed by a season 2 of that show due to choti bahu's popularity, but that was many years ago, and that too between doing choti bahu years back and shakti, she didn't do any other show that gained popularity and recognition. Shakti in a way was her comeback to tv, and even between doing choti bahu and shakti, she didn't really gain a massive and loyal fan following. By the way, none of this is meant to demean rubina; I'm just pointing out the obvious facts.I'm a woman who feels very passionate about gender equality and women empowerment, but I feel that rubina forgot to consider some things before she made this comment. At the end of the day, in the entertainment industry, star power and ability to ensure that an actor is able to pull in a substantial audience size determines pay of an actor.I think for a woman to become on par with a man, it is first essential that we as women learn that in some cases, we shouldn't think emotionally, but think practically. By this I mean, we shouldn't undermine men where it is obvious they deserve better than we do as women, such as if a man has more experience, knowledge and skill than a woman does in the career sector that a woman is competing against a man in, but we should also be aware of our own worth and how we can develop to be on par with men. No point in complaining that a man is being treated better than you in a certain job sector if the man is clearly dominating you in the field with his talent and skills. This applies to the entertainment industry too. If a man has more influence and audience-pulling star power than a woman, then she isn't in a position to complain. In bollywood, priyanka and deepika are the two actresses who deserve to be paid as much as some of their male counterparts, except for the big three khans or hritihik, as both women still haven't touched their league and star power yet, but they can defo charge more than ranveer singh, ranbir kapoor, shahid kapoor, arjun kapoor, siddharth malhotra and varun dhawan if they star in a lead role opposite any of these.
