Shreya got her way and they finalized Ananya's promotion to the role of senior reporter. Kabir was very happy for Ananya. His only apprehension was Shreya's motive behind the move.They went outside to announce the promotions. When Ananya's name was called out, Ananya came forward to shake hands with them. Shreya spoke softly.
Shreya: Ananya I have complete faith in your abilities. And I am sure you'll prove yourself. Especially to people who doubt your abilities.
She looked meaningfully in Kabir's direction. To his shock and horror Ananya looked hurt and upset with him.
He tried speaking to her. But she ignored him.
At the end of the day she came to his room to discuss a couple of new leads.
Kabir: Ananya I need to speak to you... About your promotion...
Ananya: I am glad you brought it up sir. I wanted to understand the reasons why you found me undeserving of the promotion. I promise to improve on those fronts sir.
Kabir: Ananya, stop it! Of course you deserve this promotion. I am just scared of Shreya's hidden agenda.
Ananya: As you say.
Kabir was losing his cool
Kabir: What do you mean by "As you say?" Don't keep anything in your heart. Say things aloud.
Ananya: Really? So that you can use my harmless jokes to taunt me later?
Kabir: That was a mistake.
Ananya:I need to leave. I have some work. I need to prove to my EIC and my boyfriend that I am worthy of a promotion
Kabir: Damn it Ananya...Don't you see Shreya... is...
Ananya: Shreya.. shreya.. shreya. I am tired of it. Can you forget your insecurities and move on?
Kabir was speechless and stung by her words. They reminded her of what Shreya used to say to him...
"I am tired of your insecurities and your failures."
Shreya entered soon after.
Shreya: She is a real fire-brand. SUch a free-spirited person. I am sure she'll need a partner who is equally free-spirited and fun-loving.
After a deliberate pause she continued.
Shreya: Professionally of course.
Next day
Kabir: I was only gone for a day, right? SO many structural changes? I agree that Manav should be promoted to deputy-editor, but why was it necessary to hire another deputy-editor. On the one day that I wasn't working here?
Shreya: Because we need to invest in this organization for the long term. Have enough senior managers.
Khalid: Kabir I have to say I agree with Shreya on this.
Kabir thought for a while and then continued.
Kabir:Fine. I do see the merit in your argument. And I am very impressed by the guy you have hired. Aditya Khanna. Splendid journalist even if he does have an eccentric streak.
Shreya: Great. I also think that some of the reporters should report to Aditya and Manav. I propose that Ms. Ananya Kashyap report to Aditya. She has the same streak as Aditya and he'd be able to help her mature as a journalist while still retaining her uniqueness. We certainly don't want to kill her spirit.
Kabir: But Ananya..
Malvika: Is there a problem with Ananya reporting to Aditya, Kabir? I thought you were all praises for him.
"All praises for whom. Me?"
They turned to look at Aditya Khanna. He was dressed in rugged jeans and a fitted shirt. He was carrying his biker helmet and was wearing a pair of aviators to complete the look. He was unshaven and his lips had a smug smile. He removed his aviators to reveal a set of mischievous, twinkling eyes.
Shreya: As a matter of fact yes.
Aditya this is Khalid, Malvika..
Aditya: and of course Mr. KABIR Sharma. Real pleasure to meet you Kabir.
Kabir: Nice to meet you too Aditya.
Aditya: Oh please call me Adi.
Khalid: Pleasure to meet you Adi. We were just discussing the person who will be reporting to you. She is one of our best field reporters - gets great stories. But like you she is slightly.. I mean she has a similar.. I mean...
Aditya: She is crazy like me? Oh that sounds perfect. Can I meet her?
Khalid: Sure. I'll just call her!
Khalid went out to call Ananya. Kabir and Aditya continued chatting. A few moments later Khalid returned with Ananya.
Khalid: Aditya.. I mean.. adi.. this is
Aditya cut him short and said...
Aditya: Anya!!!!
Ananya: Adi!!!
Aditya moved across the room and hugged Ananya. Khalid and Malvika were shocked. Kabir was speechless. Shreya smiled.
Aditya, with his hand around Ananya's shoulder, turned to Shreya
Aditya: Shreya, you should have told me this earlier. I would never have negotiated so hard if I had known that I'd be working with my Anya!
