Interview : Aiming for the stars, Aasma

Young, talented and rocking with their latest album is one of India's most popular quartet band, Aasma. They've had you dancing to their tunes with their first self-titled album 'Aasma'. Their second release 'Aasma - The Infinite' has all that and much more. Neeti, Sangeet, Vasudha and Jimmy are all set to take center stage, talking about their latest album and many more things.

Excerpts from the Interview:

You've carved a niche for yourselves in the Indian music industry. How do you feel?

Our first album 'Aasma' was successful. It sold 165,000copies. The journey after that has been quite exciting. We've opened the show for Bryan Adams, gave studio performances, concerts, held youth events and have been on Radio and TV. We also went to Malaysia and Dubai for live performances. With all the great things happening, we can only feel great.

So that's the reason why you go The Infinite way!

Actually it's not on the whole our decision to decide the title. We wanted to go the traditional way with more Hindi stuffs for our second album. The music company came with some alteration and we all jointly decided on it. Aasma, which means sky, is infinite and so the name of the album suited it to T.

How did the work on the second album go?

We were allowed to work on the tracks by ourselves. If any member felt a song should sound different, we changed it. On our first album we concentrated on our grooming, voice training. This time music was the focus. With the freedom we were given, the album took 3 weeks to produce, including the time spent in changes to lyrics, tunes, and meetings with music directors and lyricists

You are the teen sensation of the country. Are the songs of your new album also targeted for the youth?

This is a new album that is targeted for all music listeners. With the catchy music making for most successful genre of the current times, our album also treads the same way. The music is foot tapping with rhythm and tempo dominating throughout. It's certainly targeted to make everyone sizzle.

What is the USP of the album?

Loads of energy, freshness, groovy tunes and excitement. Lyrics and compositions are top notch. Popular musicians of Bollywood Aadesh Shrivastav, Salim-Sulaiman Merchant, Pritam have crafted the numbers. The tracks are intoxicating and will leave you gyrating to them.

Which are the best picks?

'Aasma - The Infinite' comprises 10 tracks. All of them are good but Punjaban Soni Lagdi, Mera Salim Meri Salma, Mahiya, Pyar Hi To Hai, Jahan Hai Aasma are rocking.

Working with the best composers, how did it go?

The musicians we've worked with in this album are the best in the business. Pritam, Salim-Suleiman and Aadesh Srivastav all are great and can be named in the same breathe. It was great working with Hitesh and Tino. The experience of working with all of them was awesome. We came across the greats only because we are the part of this band. They understood our talents and composed music for us.

Where do you head now as your contract with Channel V has ended?

All four of us have been associated with one another since the last two years. We are a band and we are also united in heart. We have got an understanding of each other and also strengths and weaknesses. We admire each other's capabilities. If one falters the rest stands up to support. So this is the kind of rapport we share. Above all our interest lies in one thing - music. We got together because of music. We've got the strength of each other and also the association with Channel V. There are a lot of offers in the pipeline and at the moment we can't wait for our Remix songs from the serial to be released. Aasma has sung all 8 songs in the serial and now an album is soon to be released.
